Seems backward to me. I would think that you feed the wire into the pointy end, maybe about 6" worth. Then pull the tool out from the other side, and the wire will remain in the hole, after which you can pull as much through as you want...🤷‍♂️

Yeah I mean it’ll work either way. You’re just getting a wire through a grommet after all.

It should really have a slot up the side like a socket for an Oxygen Sensor so you don’t have to pull the entire length of wire through the “bonus hole”

The real PSA is being super careful not to nick the wire bundle when going through the wire grommet. Ask me how I know.

But, it went much smoother on the passenger side feeding the wire for the ARB 12v socket.

Not to hijack the thread but just another alternative here. You use the narrow and sharp Exacto blade as the OP suggested and then insert a small skinny pair of hemostats into the slit up to the hinge of the hemostats. This allows you to open the hemostat without fighting the rubber slit. You can then grab the wire, clamp it and easily pull the wire through the grommet.
Perhaps not a perfect solution in every instance, but it has worked very well for me on numerous occasions.

Well that certainly isn't going to work for normal power wires. Seems like some unneeded socket abuse as well.
4mm socket makes a very small hole. They make flea market sockets for a reason. Could always punch it on a wood block. Ever put a chrome socket on an impact driver?

Another way is to fold the wire at the grommet and from the other side use an o-ring (hook) pick to poke through and grab the wire.

I don’t understand what you mean. Electrical tape around what cable?

Please ignore this guys hilarious/annoying voice, but this video shows how it works lol

Neat “tool”. Gotta love “multiple insertions”, “going in the back hole” and “don’t pull out just yet”!!! lol

I haven't owned hemostats since I was in H.S. 🥴 I do own circlip pliers, though. I guess it's really all about improvising with the tools available and either one of those would get the job done in this case.

Still, as a MT owner I'd rather have a better factory-supplied option than the prospect of having to cut two boots and resealing them. A ready-to-go grommet in the firewall would be very much preferred.

You can also remove grommet and place proper size socket over it and hit with a hammer against concrete which will punch out a hole. Or fabricate a double sided plastic piece and use a waterproof bushing like I did.

Wire insertion tool. Very handy to have!
But this is definitely a great idea if you don’t have one.
That tool requires that both ends of the wire be free of connectors... whichbis often not the casenthse days. You can of course cut the wire to feed though then splice, but splicing some of the finer electronics wires and or multi-strand wires is a PITA. The above is particularly true for feeding camera cables into the cabin...because Ford decided that unless you buy a Lux Badlands you absolutely don't need a trail cam.
