Alright folks, here’s the deal. My “wife’s” custom order Badlands is on its way to Hawaii as I write this post. I ask our salesman about pricing and he said we’ll get it at MSRP plus an “E-commerce fee” of $5995. Has anyone heard of an E-commerce fee at a car dealership? If so, are there any ways around it? I’ve just been prepping to negotiate my butt off.

A couple side notes: 1) I spoke to another salesman at the same dealership who said all of their trucks, vans and SUVs have this same “E-commerce fee” of $5995
2) all of this dealerships retail order broncos have markup adjustments of at least $10k
3) I asked for a purchase agreement before hearing about the extra fee and the salesman looked lost and avoided the question lol so I haven’t signed anything except for the order form
4) I do live in Hawaii so maybe this fee is unavoidable but I have heard of several people on here who got their orders at MSRP at a different dealership. Unfortunately I didn’t see that thread until after my order was in production, should’ve done more research!

Any advice or feedback would be much appreciated!

I'm sorry for your loss(of money)

Sounds like ADM
I haven’t bought it yet so hopefully I can negotiate something. It’s basically ADM but “disguised” (as if it wasn’t obvious) as a fee. I guess a $4k discount off of a $10k ADM is a great deal lol

What is Automotive E-commerce?
Automotive e-commerce is selling or buying vehicles as well as related accessories, parts, services, etc., through online channels. It includes selling every type of automobile, like cars, trucks, etc., through the internet with the help of smartphones, laptops, tablets, etc. E-commerce offers shoppers the convenience of comparing different car models (or parts) and pay for them directly via the internet. Business-to-Business (B2B) and Business-to-Customers (B2C) are the two main types of automotive eCommerce business models.

So it sounds like the dealer is charging for their software infrastructure because you used the internet to shop . Sounds like a job for your Attorney General to investigate. And you are a captive audience unless you actually use e-commerce and buy in a different state and pay for shipping to Hawaii. Can't cost $6000.

It's ADM wrapped up in a semi-official title. I spent three years in Hawaii and every dealer had crazy markup with some wanting to charge an extra transportation fee even though it was already included. Knew plenty of military that just went to the mainland and bought and shipped on their own dime which was still allot cheaper than the Hawaii tax!

This goes along with the extra charge for Paint Protection (spray on wax) and Nitrogen (Air) in the tires and any other things they can make up like Blinker Fluid. Same with 'Prep fees' and the like. They might as well charge you for the Electricity to light up the showroom and Toilet paper in the bathroom for as much as it relates directly to your Bronco.

If they were honest, they would just come out and say, "Your Bronco is going to cost $XXX more because we want to charge you extra". Thanks for coming to us!

This is probably the best answer I’ve seen on any platform. Thank you my friend!
My immediate thought when he called it an E-commerce fee was ‘are they really charging me $6k for looking at their website and sending a few texts and emails??’ But then his friend said that fee is charged on all trucks, vans and SUVs so it’s just bs.

At least in the state of Texas, under certain circumstances (like, putting an order in at a dealership), they cannot charge you ADM at all; it's considered a bait-and-switch. It's possible Hawaii has a similar law, so they're trying to sneak it in as an unrelated fee, but frankly, $6k for using a website to buy from them is BS.
