Bronco fans,
I wanted to share a project that a good buddy of mine and I worked on which turned out better than expected!

I love camping and many times arrive to the site later in the evening (have to fight traffic to make it there on Friday), so it's important to have good lighting when setting up camp. In addition - since Bronco's have the ability to have rear fog lights, I thought it would be a good idea to incorporate this feature into the work lights.

I looked at a few different solutions that use the spare tire studs to mount rear lighting, but those plates stick out past the tire (and I need all the space I can get to fit in the garage with all the other stuff in there), so I had an idea - lets mount them onto the spare tire holder and have the lights stick out thru the spokes of the sasquatch wheels.
After a little trial and error we had success. This is my first fab - likely over built but were driving a bronco so why not!

Pictures to help show it off/explain it.

Bracket made with 1/4 Steel (2" wide for main support, top support made with 1 1/2")
Lights - Diode Dynamics SSC1 Pro with Red backlight. These suckers are bright
Wiring run thru grommet where rear stop light and camera comes thru. Unwrapped tape from factory and fed new lines thru.
I have it connected to an upfitter switch. If you want you can get fancy you can have it work with reverse, a switch or a combination of the two. - upfitter connection allowing multi-use of lights.

Note that the rear tire mount appears to made from plastic. It's actually more stout than you think. It has an aluminum core in-between the shell.

@hollapm what’s the advantage of mounting the pod lights at the spare tire vs. under the bumper? Does it just light the area better being positioned higher?

One advantage that I can think of is that you can direct the light where it's needed by opening the tail gate. Mounted to the bumper, one would have to move the vehicle to direct the lights.

You can find OEM headlight switches for the Bronco that have front AND rear fog lights. I have one on order, but the supply has dried up. Back ordered with no ETA.
Not all Bronco trims have the front harness, however. (if your Bronco came with mod bumper, for example)

The red lights don't really look that bright in the pic...? Not like the white ones!

When they are mounted under the bumper and you go rock crawling they get squished, so needed to find a spot up higher. 👍

I have that switch on order and yes it's backlogged. Fortunately I enable the fogs in forscan so they turn on. The way I have the rears set up I'm using the red backlight as rear fogs so not turning them off for the time being isn't too bad (they aren't quite as bright as true rear figs are but they are a little brighter than the rear running lights).
I also have the front fog lights installed in the modular bumper and fortunately the wiring was already there.

The white lights are SUPER bright. The red acting as rear fogs are just bright enough. They could be a little bit brighter but acting as rear dogs you don't want to blind people.

This is exactly what I was thinking for rear work/scene lights hidden in the spare. Any photos of the lights in the wheel in the daylight?

We had poor weather today. I'll try and get some pictures tomorrow.

I’d love to see some closer up pictures during the day please. Looks cool and functional! I’m looking to add some lights back there but didn’t want to cut holes in the bumper - this could be an option!
