Says the cherry picker. My point is with the last the last 2 cars in our family, which also happened to be late model Fords all lest than 5 years old, we had starters replaced in what is well below the designed service life.

You are such a boob. "your experience does not prove the point, my experience proves the point". EABODBAA
your data isn’t any more accurate then mine.

sometimes shit happens and you get unlucky.

But starter failure isn’t more endemic with stop-start then it is without it. It’s being designed to survive stop starts by being beefed up and assuming something is just gonna break because it operates differently is asinine.

The whole premise of your post proposed your data was more accurate.

It is a quite the leap to say that a starter that operates, not only when the driver initially engages the ignition, but at each and every single stop, no matter how brief during each trip is no more likely to fail than a vehicle with a starter that only goes through the start cycle when the ignition is manually turned on. The starter does not operate differently, it operates way more frequently and components have a finite operating life. So speeding it up is not going to reduce it's lifespan. OK.

As a former employee of one of these manufacturers I admire your faith their claims of improved "beefed up" components.

Oh also, it is than not then.

I've always been uncomfortable with vehicles with Auto Start/Stop. The first time I experienced the "feature" it was somewhat disconcerting having the vehicle stop running at a red light. At first, I fought against it. Although I never fully reprogrammed it out of existence, I'd still generally turn it off each time I'd drive the vehicle. The Bronco version of ASS seems to be a little less aggressive than some of my former vehicles. However, there are still little annoyances such as it turning off the engine as I stop in my driveway, only to immediately turn back on as the transmission is shifted to Park.

But why so much vitriol for a "feature" that is pretty benign. Certain consumers seem to hate this capability. Is it because so many of us from the older generations have been taught that starting/stopping the engine is wasteful or even actually damaging to an engine? Or because we are stubborn and don't like being told what to do by new technology that is often perceived to be imposed on us by the "nanny state"?

Clearly, the new technology and engine tolerances make this capability non-destructive in terms of engine wear and tear. It also, on the whole, leads to some incremental MPG gains.

So why do so many of us still feel angst or discomfort with ASS?
Simple
My vehicle, my choice if I want to save three drops of gasoline per tank and not subject the engine, starter & battery to more start/stop cycles, heat soak, etc.

Bottom line....it's an absolute stupid feature that the climate change auto wackos dreamed up. First thing I purchased BEFORE I got my brand new Bronco was purchase the start/stop eliminator. Money well spent.

When you’re deep of trail and your rig doesn’t start… remember what you said
i'd probably be blaming ford's poor placement choice for the alternator in regards to water/mud crossings

I’ve noticed in my F150 & Bronco that there is a sweet spot w/brake pedal depth/pressure where the A.S.S. feature does not engage.
