I never understood why people would spend a good chunk of change on new tires when the stock ones were perfectly fine. After 60K miles on the original '22 BD Sas rubber, I had to get a new set to pass inspection. I looked at a ton of threads to find the right tire but since there was no clear consensus and everyone looks for different features based on needs, I went to Town Fair Tire and asked what they had. I was simply hoping for a quieter ride and no loss of MPG.

I ended up with the the second cheapest option they had - Nexen Roadian ATX . I did check the search here to see if anyone had experience with that tire with zero search results. After a quick google search that didn't turn up any major issues, I went with them. I've only had them for 48 hours so no real world feedback on inclimate weather or off-roading but the change for daily-driving was immediate and frankly hard to believe.

The ride is SO much smoother in every way and SO much quieter. It opened my eyes to why people spend money to upgrade tires. I went with the cheapest option and the difference is massive. Now I wonder what kind of a difference good tires make.

The only reason I'm posting is for others like me that had no idea that new tires could make such a difference. It feels like a brand new ride.

Not just the tires but the PSI that you run them as well....5 PSI difference makes a noticeable difference in feel and MPG

And sometimes in tire noise especially on a mud tire.
I air up my aggressive treaded tires for long distance highway driving and they get quieter and the fuel mileage is a little better theoretically.

I had Nexen's on my RAM 3500. Hated those damn things - I broke belts 5 times on the rears - PSI at 65 which is factory spec from RAM but any time I was hauling anything over 5K pounds, I'd bust a belt - varied across all four rears. I had the driver front also break one at 10K miles at factory spec 80 PSI hauling my truck camper. Switched to Michelins and never had the problem again. Maybe they'll do better on a lighter truck like Bronco. Good luck.

not news at all.

That tiny tire patch is the one thing between your truck and the road. Make the most of it. And consider braking--how much do you value your life?

And when I say braking, it's more than just straight line "changing from going to being stopped". Braking is involved in turning as well (stopping in one vector, accelerating in a different vector), which is just as important.

Now throw in inclement weather--you need the tires to do all those performance things in all kinds of weather.

Now imagine if you had bought even more expensive tires.

Me, I'm too poor to buy cheap.

Way back in the 70’s as a young g man I had a limited budget and bought four “ Super Mohawk” tires put on my F100. I wanted the white letters…lol. I realized I was in trouble when the tech putting the tires on the rim would cover his ears with his hands waiting for a “ pop”as he used the foot inflator. Yep, they were that crummy.lol

The single 4 most important things you will buy in your life are the tires you put on your car. Whether it's a $1000 junker or a $3M supercar we all connect to the road with those 4 tiny patches. My family's life is worth the best 4 tiny patches money can buy. It's Michelin Pilot's for my cars, Defenders for my wife's Nav and I just ordered Michelin LTX A2's for my new Bronco. Buying the close to cheapest tire you can buy from a company I've never heard of is scary to me.

The importance of good rubber on the road can not be overstated. At the end of the day, that's where all the other stuff matters.

K02s have been rock solid for me on and off-road for many vehicles.

I had a set of 20" Nexen Rodian tires on a F150 years ago, wasn't a fan, always had a shake around 55 mph and no matter how many times I had them road force balanced it would come back. Just my experience. Hope yours is better.

Has little to do with the price. If you are on road just get rid of the AT tires and go with passenger all weather tires. MPG and noise will be improved. But you will run the risk of tearing them open above 40 mph on fire roads.

Most people who spend big $$$ go with needlessly tough E rated tires. Anything more than C is plenty for the average weekend warrior. I have never had a flat on the trail with KO2s, only in town when I manage to run over a screw or some such.

Thanks for posting. The more dialogue we have on different types of tires the better

All tires with 60k miles on them will ride worse than pretty much any new tires. If you would have replaced them with the same make and model tires, the ride would improve.
I was thinking the exact same thing. You kind of forget how good tires are when they are brand new as they slowly degrade. If you are legitimately running your tread down to 4/32" (or less), they tend to be loud and ride like crap by the time you change them out.

My EV6 GT has a god awful set of Goodyear F1 Asymmetrics on them. They were mediocre to start and are absolutely horrid on noise and ride comfort now that I have 20K+ miles on them. I'm trying to get them down to 2/32" and replace as late as possible though since the car is a lease and I don't want to have to change the tires out a 2nd time in 17 months when it goes back to Kia.

If I owned the car, I'd have put them in the trash already and I know I'd be a lot happier cruising around.

On any vehicle we are going to use for ski travel in the winter, once I'm below about 50% tread (maybe 7/32" or so), I seriously consider replacing them as your snow performance is significantly compromised.
