Wife was already complaining about the third brake light assembly above the spare tire. After looking at the options(ring lights, dual pods, etc.); we decided this was the quickest/cleanest most reversible option.

Light acts as a courtesy light(unlocking car), Brake Light and Backup Light.

Install took 5-10 minutes. All you need is a 10mm socket and something to cut the zip ties clean after use. Only tricky part was fitting the new wiring harness in the same area the original plug was. Gets a little tight if you just try and cram it all in there but it fits nicely after some massaging and figuring out the puzzle.

Need to get a hitch lock tomorrow but otherwise we think it looks great.

hmmmm....you know, it's called a CHMSL for a reason--not a CLMSL.

But truly, ever since they arrived in MY1986 I've seen the benefit of being able to see a CHMSL in traffic, through the windows of other cars in front of me, cars that are otherwise blocking the regular taillights of cars two or more ahead. It gives a second or two warning about what's happening with the car ahead of the car ahead of you. I'd like to think others see mine and see the same benefit.

How bright is the reverse light? I thought about this when it first came out for some added back up illumination.

Looks nice. as @adam1991 mentions, I don't think it can legally replace the high mount brake light over the spare though, but it certainly can be used in addition to.

I would worry that the cable line your routed going under the hitch would get chewed up, I bang the crap out of my hitch on every other rock it seems. If it could be tucked inside it may work out ok for me. I do like the way it looks and the functionality

I suppose since it has reverse it requires 7-pin tow package?

Rocks crossed my mind too about the wiring. I may open the thing up again this weekend and punch a hole out the back of the bracket for the wire to the light. This may see some serious rock trials 1-2 times a year. It’d probably be fine but better safe than sorry.

To your question; yes it uses the 7 pin trailer plug.

curious on what wiring you tied into? i tried to "install" a simple hitch mount brake light and just plug into the 4-pin of the trailer wires... the towing module did NOT like that... it was throwing warnings for trailer connected and disconnected.

You disconnect the back of the 7 pin and the light has a male and female 7 pin to wire in line.

The "female" receptacle, already on the truck, actually has a male 7 pin plugged in to the back of it. You unbolt the bracket and you can disconnect that male plug from the back of the receptacle.

No errors or codes so far.

Here's a photo of the actual wiring. Two 7 pins get plugged in inline and the grey/orange connector goes to the actual light.

Check your local laws, up here in BC the law is only 2 lights required, none less than 38cm (15") and not more than 1.83m (54").
I've had mine for a couple of years, but didn't have the factory harness, I had to rig my own. I've been to Moab twice and have hit the hitch many times.
The wiring runs through the hitch and is not exposed, I think it's the safest place to have a light, surrounded by thick steel! lol

Just looked in to this for Texas.

".....The Center High Mounted Stop Lamp must not be mounted less than 15 inches, nor more than 72 inches."

I bet our hitch is higher than 15"!!!

Exactly why we bought it for the 23 ! Brake was a bonus.
I can`t wait to put one on my 24--waiting on hitch to show up.
