I think THIS is the missed point. The idea that leaving a harmless gift for someone is somehow a sense of "entitlement." I think it's dumb, but it's a gesture of good will and admiration, not some sort of self-serving, entitled action. What makes you think it is?
I've already explained it many times, but I can't help you understand it. It's a made up, mind numbing hobby for busy bodies looking for a purpose. I'm sure a Jehovah Witness thinks they have the best of intentions when they stalk you at home and tag your door with pamphlets, but fuck them and their BS, too.

Also, playing the game of Tag should be revised to Trip, so as not to touch anyone with their Edward grubby hands. A failed attempt to trip results in a rubber duck jettisoned to the face of who's it. But not on my lawn, and not on a cloudy day. That'll teach current and future generations to run faster and loathe rubber ducks, and the ultimate demise of rubber ducks from the worldwide hatred of eating a duck in the face from failure as a kid.

This is like the old friend of mine who loved his lawn so much he scooped up the neighbor's dog's shit they left on his lawn and went down and flung it on his little kid's bikes (with training wheels). Taught them a lesson! Yeah, to uh stay away from the crazy old man down the street. 🙃

You are missing the point. The whole issue here is other people touching your Bronco without permission. My point is people are touching your Bronco without your permission all the time. Whether they leave behind a toy or just fingerprints doesn't really matter. If you park your vehicle out in public you are just gonna have to find a way to be ok with that.
Just because people do it does not make it right.

I agree that it is going to happen and people against the "touching" are going to have to come to grips with it....

I still see it as a social faux pas. That is the way I was raised and I am not changing my opinion on that.

I get upset when people tell me they "know better" and I should change my views because the way they see the world is superior to mine. That is where I start telling someone to step off.... It is not someone else's place to tell me how to see the world. I struggle not telling others how to see the world and I do not mind a conversation about differences in perception, BUT that conversation HAS to include respect in both directions.... Telling me I am a fool for what I believe is not respect.

I would prefer people not leave trash on my vehicle.

It could be a duck, a business card advertising your landscaping business, or a flyer for the sock hop at the community center this weekend. In my view, it's all trash.

If there's a garbage can within reasonable walking distance that's where it will go. Otherwise...on the ground. It's definitely not getting in the car with me. I have enough of my own trash in there, don't need anyone elses.

Maybe you had a traumatic childhood experience involving a rubber duck and this is how it manifests in your adulthood. I bet you hate ducks. You probably duck hunt, not for the love of the sport, not for wildlife conservation and not because you love to eat duck...simply because you like to kill ducks. You dance around the campfire in a head-dress made of duck feathers and wear a necklace made from their beaks and feet. You jerk off to posters of Elmer Fudd shooting Daffy Duck. You vacation everywhere on the OBX except for Duck. You probably hate Oregon's Mascot.

Or maybe I just have a vivid imagination and too much free time this morning before my meeting starts at noon.

You know what bugs me? I mean like dirty looks and grumpy stomping?? When my dumbass parks WAAAAAAY out towards the back of the parking lot, all by my lonesome, where NOBODY else would want to walk out that far, and then I come out some *#()$)!! has parked next to me like a lonely little child clinging to a strangers leg. MOTHER-!! 😡 Sometimes I even see the little assholes, their jerk faces all smug acting like they didn't just-

Then I come to grips with myself, pull my shorts up and drive off, swearing where no one can hear me. 😁

I fully understand your sentiment. I only take issue with "on the ground"... I would respectfully ask you to put it in the vehicle only to find an appropriate receptacle.... I find throwing shit on the ground to be distasteful and ugly... You probably do already and were just trying to make a point... Just clarifying.

^ It's definitely this, but at least you aren't out and about handing out rubber ducks.

To be honest... I park way out in the middle of no where, and typically (not always) people stay the hell away. I don't think Jeeps in particular like parking next to me LOL...

Wow! Who would have thought that a little rubber duck would create over 17 pages of pent-up anger and resentment?

Listen, I don't like people touching my stuff just like the next person, but to read some of the comments, you would think that placing a token of goodwill and admiration is the same as someone dragging a screwdriver along the side of your vehicle.

In my retirement job I work for an automotive performance company. A few weeks ago, I took one of our Corvettes to a car show. The car was parked, and I was standing next to it having a conversation with someone I knew.

All of a sudden, this older gentleman, I estimate probably late 70s or so, walks up, opens the driver door, leans in and picks up a food ticket on the seat that was given to me. I call out, "can I help you?!". Completely ignores me and proceeds to sit in the driver seat and then picks up my sunglasses that were laying on the console. I then walk up to him again and ask him what he was doing. I was in utter disbelief at the gall this guy had.

In a much-elevated voice, I ask him again if there was something I could help him with and that he just can't be opening cars and sitting in them. He then gruffly asked me a question about the car and then walked away. This was not some entitled, ill-mannered kid, but instead an entitled old guy who figured he could do whatever he wanted.

Now that's something that upsets me.

I'm not into the rubber duck thing, but it's not going to piss me off if someone puts one on my car. I will likely throw it out. You go to car shows and people are always putting flyers on your windshield or laying them on the seat if your window is open. Heck, the police can put a parking ticket on your windshield. What are you gonna do? Start a fight every time?

Listen, I am obsessive about my cars and am meticulous about caring for them and their appearance. That said, I'm not condoning people leaving stuff on my car (within some sort of reason) but there seems to be a lot of an old man "get off my lawn" sentiment out there.

Life is short. I've dealt with disease and loss within my family, but I try to keep things in perspective on these types of things. As for the "ducking" thing, I personally look at it as someone complimenting you on your ride. It may not be something I would do, but it's well intentioned, and as long as they aren't harming the vehicle, I take it as a sign of goodwill.

This world has too much ill will and polarization to get real bent out of shape over this.

That's my opinion at least that I figured I would throw into this 17-page thread along with everyone else.

Oh I got stories. Both my 2010 Chevy and my 2023 Bronco got dents in the doors with paint left within a month of owning both, and both times I was at the BACK of the parking lot by myself when I parked, no cars nearby. I mean c'mon! My Chevy was the fourth car in the Kroger parking lot at 7:15am on a Saturday morning! Why did the 450lbs dude in the conversion van park that close to me when he had the WHOLE PARKING LOT and I was at the back of the row??

By I digress. I guess the rub is it feels so personal, but it probably wasn't. Not everyone's a churlish asshole, but sometimes I fit that profile I know.
