2023 bronco black diamond. About a year ago I upgraded all the speakers except the factory sub. All has been fine up until a week or so ago. Balance on the rear pods works but I have no front speakers. If I manually set the fade to the front, the rear become very “bassy” and low volume and anything from my iPhone goes to the rear and is barely audible. I’ve reset the sync system and reset my phone, still not resolved. Could an update have screwed this up?

All you did was change speakers? Did you cut any wires or use adaptors?

No wiring mods. Speakers out/speakers in and mods via ForScan. Has worked fine for almost a year.

Sounds like its a fault in the APIM. Put it back stock and take it to the dealer. Assuming youre still under warranty.

Yeah, I don't think there is a separate fuse for the front channel or anything, and it sounds like your front channel amp in the ACM is just gone.

I think the head unit amp is in the ACM (and also DSP on B&Os), not the APIM, but not 100% on that. Could be the ACM is part of the APIM module - I don't know.

If you have the ability, while you are reverting things back to stock - in Forscan make sure the Front Channel is still set to Speaker + Tweeter, and it hasn't changed itself to "None" or something like that. There will probably be a DTSC set in the ACM - that could be helpful to check too.

I don't know what the P/N is for the ACM to see how much it would be for out-of-warranty.

Checking the ForScan settings is no big deal but as I think back on the speaker swap, I really don't want to do that unless I absolutely have to. That was a project for this old man. Definitely under warranty - Just a year old and 9,000 miles.

I think the fear is if you leave it as-is and go into the Dealer, they are just going to tell you your new speakers blew up the amp (which is possible, I admit, but fairly unlikely), and deny any warranty claim.

Now maybe that's ok and you are expecting that. Just a heads up though.

I understand and appreciate that. The upgrade was designed by and purchased from Crutchfield. I would be shocked if it was determined that that was the cause of the problem. Thank you for your feedback.

Going to the shop Monday. Between the leaky roof, the shocks and now this, I really don’t care what they do. To be clear, I don’t fault my dealership. If a module or two needs to be replaced and the challenge the warranty claim, I may just start shopping. Maybe a Tahoe.

U P D A T E - On my way to the dealership this morning, the front/left speaker starts working normally. Front/right speaker is still dead. Hopes are not high that they will resolve it today. On a brighter note, the seal for the windshield is due in this week and I might just get that taken care of while its there. Ahhh the retired life.

The "seal for the windshield" comment stands out. I'd pop out those front speakers and confirm the connectors aren't rusted.

In other vehicles I've had that issue/cause appear in door speakers, and ever since I use dielectric grease on speaker connections that may be exposed to the elements.
