I am not from the USA - where I am from, specifically the state/province we are required by law to have mudflaps on each tire of the vehicle. A dealership was actually held responsible when they sold vehicles without mudflaps on each tire a number of years ago by our government insurance.
And Ford sold mudflaps that they said fit, and your dealership techs said "they must fit, Ford said so" and got out the air powered crowbar and jammed them in there. And sales put the Bronco out on the floor for...you to find.

As someone pointed out above - the Ford website actually says that these mudflaps will not work with the specific steps I have. I am sure it was just a communication error or something unknown at the time. I will talk to them about it with all of the information I have received here.

Ah, but that disclaimer is relatively new.

For example, it did NOT appear back last September as I was buying things for my then-new '23 OBX with the same steps. Hence my take on it that the dealer bought the mud flaps that Ford said was for that application, just like I did--except when my dealer went to install them, they were smart enough to stop and say "these won't work".

So the mudflaps worked fine for 8 months, then amazingly “wrecked” your Bronco ?

And you claim in that entire time you have never run over a stick, rock, or pair of vice grips that fell off a construction crews truck ?

I run over stuff all the time.

Just like using the word “wrecked” to describe a scratch, I suspect there is a lot more to this clickbait story.

OP: you bought a 2023 in late 2024, was it used or just sat on the lot for 18 months?

Yikes dude - I posted the pictures of the mudflap wrapped up around the tire. I also pointed out that I meant damaged by the word wrecked. I am not sure what else needs to be said here but I hope you have a more positive day going forward.

Non-used. It was on the lot when I bought it. As I explained above, the dealership had installed these as it is required by law where I live.

I will also add, as others have contributed, these mudflaps should not be used with the step that is on my Bronco - my vehicle looks to be an unfortunate example of why that is so.

Solved!

For anyone in the future perusing this here is what I've discovered. This is not an issue as to how the mudflaps were installed, which I originally suspected.

Instead, it seems that the OEM Mudflaps do not work with the Step Bars - Tube Steps.

Step Bars - Tube Steps: https://www.ford.com/product/step-bars-tube-steps-4door-p2918570123

The mudflaps actually have a disclaimer on the ford website that they are not to be used in combination - and you can take a look at my original pictures for a sad example as to why this is true. This disclaimer seems to be new as some have pointed out it wasn't there when they ordered theirs - but the dealership they took them to have installed knew not to install them.

Below are the two sets of mudflaps where they disclaim 'Not for use with Step Bars'.

I will also add that when I put my VIN into the parts website for Ford these mudflaps do not show up as compatible with my vehicle. They do not show up at all doing a VIN parts search.

Not that they have a set that does work with the rock rails and one set that does not work with the rock rails. Neither work with the step bars.

I was actually wondering this - because it looks like it would rub no matter how they install them. Are there specific mudflaps that would work or would I need to change the step itself to get flaps? They are required in my state/province.
Required? Really? Why?

As explained above, the state/province I live in has mudflap regulations. Each tire is required to have mudflaps, so dealers are required to install mudflaps before they sell the vehicle to you. The regulations require the mudflaps to be a specific size as well.

I suspect it is because the province is quite isolated in terms of concrete highway and has alot of gravel roads. Add to that our economy being somewhat focused on agriculture makes me suspect alot of vehicles were having claims due to rocks being thrown - which ended up with these regulations. But this is just my assumption.

I bought a new 2023 at the end of August 2024. Build date was December 2023.

Day 3, as the dealer diagnosed a bad transfer case, they discovered that--ta da--the battery needed to be replaced.

When I purchased my 2023 Wildtrak I was originally looking at a 2024 Carbonized Grey Outer Banks. I saw the 23' Wildtrak sitting at another nearby dealership. I was able to get it for a really good price since it had been sitting on the lot for so long. The only issues I have had are that the weathering on the top had to be replaced as water was coming into the vehicle when it would rain/snow, and then this tire-eating my mudflap incident.

We have all known this since september 2021. It’s no secret.
