Rough country winch mount unbox/ INSTALL tips.

After seeing previous posts and after relocating the camera my free way. I decided I’m going with the control relocate. I went to my local auto value and had them make me some 8’ cables. Ordered a water right project box. Here’s the mock up and wires ran. I’ll unhook the positive lead until the box comes in. I still have to trim the plastic trim parts, and get some more chafe protection on the wires.

Here’s a pic of the bezel that I masked off before cutting and the reference mark if this helps anyone.

for the radius mentioned in the manual, I didn’t cut into the corner all the way to allow a break off area. Then I went through with a rotating sanding bit to create the radius.

pic after the radius… still need to sand the rest of the edges of course.

note** I have not masked and trim the inner part of the bezel.

Fully installed aside from the light bar wiring (waiting on some more Deutsch connectors to arrive).

What did you use to trim the plastic around the tow hooks? Mine is fully installed except for that step and I'm afraid I'll mess them up. The instructions about trimming the plastic are not the best...

Well life (kids & wife) got the better of me again. I’m gonna try to get the camera relocated tomorrow. I did find time to do a quick art project for my emblem. Removed the badlands Sasquatch badging finally.

I marked it out using a marker and then cut it using a Dremel. Someone else said they used and oscillating tool for the straight cuts, which I wish I had thought of.

I think my JCR camera relocation is arriving on Monday so I'm excited to get that on.

Who makes the watertight project box?

i’ll get a picture later. Camera relocate not a complete success. On my wife’s bronco with the ford/warn setup it is great. Well because the apex winch is bigger and the RC mount is higher and tighter makes it a problem. The overhead view shows the winch being wider than the front of the bronco. The forward camera as to use for break over and parking is decent still. Hers is also a 22 so maybe a little different software? Still worth doing but was hoping for the same results as the wife’s. Top is mine, bottom the wifes.

Watching this thread. I think I will eventually re-house the control box guts and relocate the camera. Just have the huge Apex control box on top completely blocking the camera for now.

Watching this thread. I think I will eventually re-house the control box guts and relocate the camera. Just have the huge Apex control box on top completely blocking the camera for now.

With your bull bar the Jcr would be a better setup eventually. Or a custom mount that comes off of your bull bar. There is plenty of wire to get that far on the stock harness. The sensors will still keep me from alert in case my mind wonders when parking.

I too got the RC winch mount and a Warn evo 12, but after reading the instructions on how to mount it I opted to have a shop do it. I also got the JCR camera relocation kit (they are also installing it). Will be installed on Tuesday, I can provide pics… but I have no clue what tricks they will do to install it… I also got that kill kit from warn (that I plan on using to connect the kill to the aux switches). Anyway, I want to be a part of this super helpful thread.

Version 1.0 installed. Should have went 2” longer on the box. Having bad thoughts about sealing it completely up. I’m not by any means an electrical engineer. Worried about condensation and cooling of the solenoid. I’ll fashion a cover for the terminals and I put drain holes in the bottom just in case. There should be very little splash where it’s located and if I’m that deep in water I have bigger problems. Undecided on a battery cut off as well since the only live wire is the 10-12” lead from the battery to the solenoid. And not sure I want to trust a harbor freight disconnect. I also need to make/find a cover for the remote connection should I ever need it. (And I know the under hood is filthy lol thanks silver lake sand dunes) I may end up with the 10” box if I can find one the right hieght but the farther back you go the less space you have.
