Rocker panel chips EVERYWHERE…please advise!

Ok so I was washing my car today and realized it had huge rock chips right above the steps! I live on a gravel road and being the Sasquatch/wildtrak I had read it was prone to this, so I got mudflaps. Based on the decrease in noise (rocks hitting a tin can) I thought I was ok. I’m so sad I didn’t notice sooner. I put some pictures of the damage and also what I was thinking of buying (barricade rocker guards and door panel stick ons. Please let me know what you guys have done! There’s so many options out there and I have no clue where to start but need to order something ASAP!

In addition to my already installed Rok Blokz mud flaps, I plan to have bedliner sprayed along of bottom (rocker panels & doors) to prevent rock chips. Did this on former 2018 Colorado & it was solid...never chipped, or came off.

As “Iceman62” stated bedliner……you could apply it yourself as roll on or rattle can in black, but if you want that bottom color matched you may need to have it done by a professional Linex or Rhino.

Every configuration has trade offs. These big ass ‘25 OEM running boards have completely protected my rockers from chips, even with no front flaps and gravel flying everywhere every time I leave or arrive back home. They also are friendly to my wife when she has heels on.

The trade offs are they look kinda lame and I can’t do serious trails with them on. I’d have to pull them off and put rails on.

I have seen folks do that in bedliner or rocker guard paint and it looks good, but you either need to be good with paint or have it done professionally - rattle cans are too easy to get runs or inconsistent coverage for me to dare mask off a panel and DIY, but a lot of folks have done it and have it turn out looking great, so YMMV.

I do all my add-on stuff (bumpers, skid plates, rock rails, etc) in Rustoleum Black Bedliner paint and it holds up remarkably well for spray paint (and pretty well matches the powder coat most everything tends to come with), but dunno how I feel about it on my door panels.

If you have air compressor best to get body shop style screw on rock guard dispenser and black rock guard from body shop supply store.

Degrease everything you want to cover incl the strep, scuffs paint incl edges w 200-320 gt well, then apply three thin coats 10 min flash time between coats. Be sure to use 2" masking tape inside the door and door sill edges ...lawyer thinner it acetone will easily clean and fresh rock guard. Do it where have plenty fresh air it's very toxic off gassing.

Will last forever, can touch up, and way cheaper than the Ford stick on rocker / weld seam protectors I put on and the bottoms of my doors are still neked but I have splash guards and the OBX steps.

I should have just done the rock guard.

I would suggest getting different tires if you drive gravel roads a lot. Those stock tires are insane rock throwers. I changed them out after two weeks and had already noticed a handful of rock chips. Also, broflaps work pretty well to help. The night and day difference ended up being to ditch the factory Goodyears.

If you want you could always get some touch up paint for carb gray then ppf the rockers and high impact areas.

I recently had my bronco done with PPF all around, cause I knew I wanted to avoid chips and scratches.

I'm not sure which mud guards you bought but for these beasts you really need the old school ugly looking mud guards. I hummed and hawed because I hate the look of them but finally settled on the Rally Armor ones and they've been good so far. I still hear the random sounds of rocks being flung so I also got Xpel PPF installed on the rockers and 1/4 of the doors as well.

So far so good.

I've still had to do a few touchups to my OEM hoops steps because they've taken a couple of hits. I see your running boards also need some touch up paint or the like so they won't run.

They work. As stated, they also flex off road. I’m very happy w them since installed.

Thank you guys for all the suggestions! I have the original broflaps. The main place of the chips is in front of the rear tire. And the lower portion of the door. Just very frustrating since I’ve only had it since March. If people have links to exactly what they have that would be super helpful!
