It's only competition for more-doors and if people are deciding between the two, go 4Runner! It's the obviously better choice for someone who thinks they're comparable vehicles for similar vehicle needs.

Does it have disc brakes yet, though, or are those a $5000 dealer installed item? 😂

70k OTD is too much for me. At that point Im going full size Raptor 150 or Tundra TRD Pro.

I guess I never considered a 4 Runner an off Road vehicle.

I guess I'd consider a 4 Runner closer to a trimmed down explorer than a Bronco.
Put a 2" lift on the front end of the Explorer and you have a luxury 4Runner.

I suggest doing a google search on 4Runner Moab for videos and then do the same for an Explorer. While the 4Runner has never tripped my interest meter it's very capable and can handle more than just runs to the soccer field.

I've been saying stuff like this for years around the whole "vs the competition" talk. If anyone thinks a 4Runner, Grand Cherokee or the new Recon is competitive with a 6th gen in terms of meeting their needs then they should go with one of those (or maybe a Sport if they're insisting on a Bronco logo). Otherwise they're going to pay low-end-luxury dollar for a middle-ground-base-feeling vehicle equipped with a bunch of expensive offroad components they don't need at all. Any of the "competition" is going to feel much nicer to them and often be less expensive.

The only exception to this is if someone is buying the 6th gen specifically to have a convertible top. Thats really the only thing it has over any of the others and if it's your top priority then go for it - just be prepared to make a bunch of sacrifices everywhere else.

It's true (kinda), but the market definitely sees it as an offroad vehicle. For some reason it's a chart topper in all the reviews of "off-road vehicles" because apparently nobody needs to fit 33's without rubbing from the factory and offroad trails are rated 1-5, and 6-10 does not exist, and if it did it would be for rock buggies only ;).

Granted its much easier to wheel and modify a 4runner than a modern explorer. But still way overhyped as a capable wheeler. Not having an option with a front locker at this point is hilarious and the wheel package for larger tires is still pathetic.

Agree. Fundamental significant differences in body on frame versus a unibody vehicle. Having owned (and wheeled) a 2016 Trail followed by a 2020 TRD Pro, I can attest that the vehicle is way more capable than you'd tend to think it is and articulated extremely well. Biggest Achilles' heel was definitely issues like departure angle and the relatively long wheel base (fixed by a set of good rock sliders though).

4Runners are very much not a cross over. All the more reason the majority of people who buy them would be better off in a cross over :).

Directly converting to CAD puts the SR5 at 60k, and the Off-Road Premium at 77k with the hybrid pushing it to 81k.

My 24BB with options topped out at 60k and now I’m even happier that I YOLOed when I did.
The pricing of these vehicles is getting a little out of control as the last gen 4Runner was at least somewhat attainable by regular folk. Now you can basically cross shop nicely equipped 4Runners with Land Cruisers and it's not really supposed to work that way or at least it shouldn't.

Highly recommend! They’re great trucks, no matter how much grief you may get on here about them 🤣

Was going over the pricing with my Father in law last night as they've been waiting for a Gen6. The SR5 to TRDOR premium jump is crazy, $12200?????. MY24's jump is half that so not sure a hood scoop, rear locker, and Toyota GOAT modes, & fake leather are worth that!
The SR5 only went up $2k and is still a decent deal for what you get.

Unless it comes with a stick shift, it's not a competitor.

I'd cross shop a Mustang before a 4Runner.
