Any idea how much or if they adjusted dampening/rebound to account for the portals?
This is the response I got from Ride.

Portals will not have any direct effects on the valving of the shocks. Everything will be 3rd party and farther for how it ends up at the shock's doorstep.

Portals will affect the ride height of the vehicle, which also allows for taller tires, which raises the vehicle higher, so you may find that your LOW SPEED damping needs to be a couple of clicks higher because you exhibit more body sway than a lower height vehicle, with smaller tires and less sidewall.

Hmmmmmm. The guy that builds our portals has Fox shocks valved specifically for use with the portals to account for the unsprung mass increase. I just couldn’t justify dropping eight grand on them, especially when he thought the RK valving would be comparable

I am not valved any differently for portals than I would be without them... I am valved for the weight above... Now that said... I did feel it necessary to move to a 2.5 over a 2 because I needed the extra oil for the unsprung weight. The dampener has to work harder generating more heat and the additional oil and lower PSI on the valve helps tremendously. The 2.5 really seems to do a great job. seems perfect to me.

I'm not knowledgeable enough to even have an opinion. I pay people who are smarter than I am to figure it out and guide me to the correct solution.
If I were to buy any brand of shock I would buy from Accutune because of their reputation. I guess I'm just going to have to take their word for it and see if I like the results. 🤷‍♂️

One of those things where really, are any of us that aren’t using our rigs as a dedicated KOH rig really going to notice a difference in 13% damping difference? Probably not. Particularly so when it comes to crawling over rocks unless it’s something that causes more wheel hop. But even then we’re doing it right with our coilover replacements and portals rather than maxing out the preload to get as much lift as possible.

We’re all gonna be okay

Not a shock guru but you’d think with an extra 25 or 30lbs that a portal weighs hanging down below the coilover that they would need to be tuned for that extra unsprung weight.
That's what I intuitively thought as well. They assure me that this is the right coilover for me. Trust me I will let you guys know if this is not the case.

Broncbuster says the same thing about his steering rack and portals 😂

Yeah I hope so my wallet is in pain. I really don't want to spend another 8k on another set of coilovers.
I'm pretty sure they'll be fine and I'm confident that they'll fix them if they aren't.

If I don’t like mine I’m likely not replacing them anytime soon.

All joking aside I do think they’ll be awesome

Edit-“they” being Ride and RockKrawler

So you're saying you DON'T want to spring for the unsprung weight?!? 🤔 😁

You're getting a lot of stuff done, I assume you'll be in it for a while getting the kinks worked out. However, I believe you'll be fine in the end. You're definitely getting your parts from reputable companies that seem to stand behind their products.

Excited to hear your first impressions! I got my Ranger Raptor finally and the Fox Live Valve is amazing on the trail. Now I’m very curious about upgrading my Bronco Suspension
