So here is my dilemma. I used to drive a First Edition with the Hennessey tune (before the haters jump on me, I bought it used when Raptors were $25k over msrp) and at the time it felt great and fun and everything I really needed for the streets. Remember that nobody was allowing test drives on Raptors back then.

Fast forward to now, I have a 2025 Heritage 1st edition on order, plan is to do a retro build on it and add 37's, 17" wheels, coil overs, front bumper, some retro paint bits and the Ford tune.

Then eventually get a 2025 Marsh raptor when the prices drop on them like they did on the 24's.

However, I have never driven a 2.7 with a tune so will I be disappointed when compared to a Raptor especially after adding bumpers and bigger tires? Is the power difference significant enough that I should scrap that plan and just find a Raptor?

Yes. I went from a tuned 2.7 badlands to a Raptor and its very noticeable. The 3.0 is awesome compared to the 2.7.

I don't have experience with the Procal tune on the 2.7 but by all accounts on the forum people are underwhelmed. The Raptor 3.0 will be a noticeable difference.

A retro build on the Heritage w/ the upgrades you describe sounds great but don't translate into increasing the value...being a Heritage it will probably have the opposite effect unless you find the right buyer. If you plan to trade, the dealer isn't going to give anything extra for all the mods. With that being said you'll be further ahead going straight to the Raptor IMO.

I would just go Raptor now, but a 2.7 with a ZFG tune is plenty spicy. Will be quicker than a stock Raptor easily. Be aware you probably won't be able to tune the '25's right off the bat. It can take time for tunes to be available. You can tune a '24 right now.

It really depends on the tune you’re going with.
FP tune or something similar would still be disappointing compared to a Raptor.
A legit custom tune from a place like @ZFGracing is a much different story.

The other part of the story is that the last 3 vehicles have been F150 Raptor V6, Porsche Cayenne Turbo GT and now a TRX. So, it sounds like even with a FP tune on a 2.7, I will be nowhere near what I am used to

I've driven neither a 2.7 w/tune or a Raptor, and can tell you with authority, on this question, I don't know what I'm missing. FWIW. lol

You can upgrade the turbos and do a big (non-Ford) tune with the 2.7. I would assume the 3.0 is enough beast mode, though, that probably just go Braptor from the start.

Fully upgraded 2.7 is no slouch. I am talking about charge pipes, down pipes IC, and tune. I have not been in a BRaptor, but my setup is not slow by any stretch.

Please understand that the Raptor is MUCH more than just a larger motor with more HP & TQ. The suspension is totally different animal than the “regular” Bronco which makes driving the Braptor significantly more exciting than my Heritage LE

Oh I fully understand that part. The Live Shocks 4.0 is one of the best setups in the industry. If the Braptor had been available when I got my Badlands, I would have probably bought one.

Adding much heavier, larger 37's to the Heritage will help the (engine) performance pendulum swing more towards the Raptor in your scenario.

And the $$ spent on all the Heritage upgrades will negate the potential 'early adopter' pricing on a '25 Raptor..

Leverage the (Granger?) '25 Raptor order special. Just do it....... LOL

good luck...

Yea, I hear you on all that. The retro build would have been fun but I feel like that I would not get most/any of that money back when the itch comes back for a Braptor, where on a Braptor is a long term keeper unless they come out with an R

And most importantly you'll get to own, drive and enjoy the Bronco Raptor longer rather that just wishing you did.

And no need for a Ravelco like on your TRX...

The FP tune for the 2.7 in my opinion does more for the automatic transmission than it does for the power output. No more aggressive short shifting unless you intentionally go into eco mode. It's plenty fast enough for me.

What is the cost of a tune like that? What do people normally do when they want to trade in the vehicle at a later date? Take back to stock or try and sell to a private party?
