OK guys, either I read the posts too fast and missed it or ya;; are so far above me electrically (which you are) I don't understand all that fancy talk. What is a BMS? Someone finally defined SOC so Im good there. Thanks
BMS is the battery monitoring system.
It’s a sensor that constantly measures voltage and current flow in and out of the battery to determine the batteries overall state of charge (SOC) and health.

I think I actually do have mine hooked up after the BMS then! Didn't realize the BMS was actually part of this stud. Black wire I'm touching goes to the battery tender. (The brown/orange goop is NOCO battery terminal anti-corrosion spray-on goop)

Just do what @Ducati1098 says, but hey, clean up those damn terminals looks like you spilled pancake syrup all over it and just left it. That's gross and can be dangerous.

Grab a cheap brush off Amazon or at the Harbor Freight and try to keep that area tidy. :)

BMS stands for Battery Management System. It maintains the charging rate from the alternator and monitors the state of charge while idling, driving, parked, etc. to ensure that the battery is kept charged enough to start the vehicle and not getting overcharged etc. It also monitors the load of the electrical system, for example if heated seats are on and HVAC is full blast and music is blasting at max volume and you've got light bars runnign etc, the system will detect a heavier load on the electrical system and the BMS can communicate with the alternator to accommodate for that.

That is NOCO anti-corrosion coating, as previously stated - basically a fluid film version of dielectric grease that gives better coverage as it seeps into cracks where dielectric grease would miss. If I clean that off then they will be more susceptible to corrosion. I have battery terminal brushes lol. I periodically use them to clean my battery posts and terminals and then re-coat with battery terminal protectant.

I’m a little confused ……why does it matter if connecting to actual battery post or tab coming from BMS, both locations are on battery side of BMS…..??????

No only the battery post is on the “ battery side” of the BMS and therefore the BMS cannot do its job. Using the tab allows the BMS to sense all the charge heading towards the battery.

Connect positive cable to the positive terminal first. Then negative cable to a ground point on the chassis. They say to connect to ground last to avoid sparks near the battery. Not much of a risk with an AGM battery. The old style vented batteries will outgas hydrogen which can make things exciting if it ignites. (Think Hindenberg)
Yup.
I still do it that way for jumping any car.

Hmmmm……..I’m just not seeing that. Battery post connects under tab on BMS and then comes the BMS housing and then the wiring comes out of other end of BMS…..I can’t see how there’s a difference between battery post or tab on BMS
I would understand if tab was on other end of BMS near wire exit

Because just as you describe the BMS is between the battery post and the tab. Anything on the tab or beyond it (basically the rest of the bronco) forces the current to pass through the BMS allowing it to measure the current. Anything connected directly to the battery post itself bypasses BMS.

I didn’t say that….BMS tab is on battery post side then to the sensor then outgoing wires. If tab was on wire side coming out of BMS then yes it would make sense. I’m not trying to argue with anybody on here I’m just not seeing BMS between tab and battery post. Post and tab are both on same side of BMS

Electrically, I don't think it matters.
Any proper "-" cable connection is still on the Negative Ground for the vehicle.

Not correct - the tab is not on the battery side of the BMS. If it is, then it was installed incorrectly somehow. The black box to the left of my red circle is the BMS. The red circled item is the tab we're talking about.
