Bought a used 24’ with 4000 miles on the clock about 4 weeks ago. I’m starting to dig in as prep for some upgrades and I found a mystery wire. I actually noticed it tapped off the fuse block while I was painting my tie downs. A little look at the firewall shows pass through on the driver side. Under the driver side door edge the wire is headed to the back. Sub looks original from what I can see. Gotta find my other tools and tear up the rear and see what we got. I do see what looks like a remote wire near the sub. Who wants to guess? What the hell is back there tapping 12 volt?

You have a tow(4 pin?) by any chance?

Pretty thin wire to power an amp, would guess probably some type of chase light or other lighting on the rear.

Actually, yes there is a tow package. So the green wire is probably tapped on a brake light then? That was a much easier mystery than expected.

Is it a 4-pin that you have?
That green wire. Can you tell me that picture location, can't tell from the picture?
Terrible guess. It is someone's ground wire (chassis ground)

Behind the panel near the subwoofer. Pulled it back just enough to see if the red wire was visible. It wasn’t.

my tow package has the 4 pin and a round connector too.

That looks like wire bought from AutoZone or someplace similar. And it's not connected to a switch. So it doesn't control a light. Whoever did it was pretty amateurish.

What fuse is it connected to? And did you buy it from an individual or a used car dealer? I'm thinking it could be a tracker used for recovery of a car where the account is delinquent. But that doesn't explain why the wire is run so far.

Also your photos show both green and red. Two wires or just poor color correction?.

Purchased from a dealer used. Original buyer brought I back and got an F250.

there are two wires. Red from fuse box to rear. Green found under sub cover panel. Ground wire sounds more likely too. Rubber cap on 2 inch receiver says Nilight so the piece is definitely aftermarket.

So the original buyer added something. Considering the quality of work, I'd want to know what it was just to make sure it didn't cause a problem in the future.

Nilight is big on Amazon for cheap lights and aux switch setups - so I bet that ran back to a chase or camping light or second power point in the back. Probably pulled the light and tucked the wire

The red is the older style 4-pin trailer module - should have a little fuse holder up near the battery.

Mystery no more.

plugged in an old tailgate led light from my Ram. Set to hazards on. Blinks away.

Pulled the fuse under the hood on the tap and they turn off.

and that fine detailed install work was done by the dealership. It has a tag…

Which dealership? I hope it's not the one I go to.

I had some Baja Designs lights installed at the Dealer before I picked up My new Bronco well when my electrician install my switch pro he redid my lighting that the dealer did because it wasn’t up to my electricians standards.
I couldn’t believe what the electrician showed me and all the extra wire that was tucked in the fenders. I was really disappointed with the dealer that pride themselves in customizing.

The dealers prides themselves in billing $150 an hour. There is no workmanship to it.
