Missing hardware for slide-out tailgate

Hi all,

Just received the new slide-out tailgate, and missing bolts and side brackets.
I called Ford parts and asked if they can send the missing pieces and was told no.
They offered to create an airbil, however the box was in very bad shape and to be broken down in my recycle bin. I also did not anticipate parts to be missing. Honestly a first time for me.

I offered to buy the missing pieces and was told that they do not carry them separately and cannot be purchased.

Do I just buy a huge box and toss all of pieces in the box and send it back to them with their air bill?
Just irritated as the package took a month to arrive to me.

Will not be buying from Ford parts after this lousy customer experience.
Had better luck with Chevrolet parts.

Any other thoughts, not thrilled about wasting $1200.

Also called Ford customer care and got nowhere. Again much better experiences with GM.

What pieces are you missing now?? Sounds like you're missing C, D, and a few of the bolts? If so, which bolts?

Packing it up and sending it back for a replacement is probably the "correct" answer, but since you don't have the package anymore and packaging costs money, may not make sense.

Ask if you can purchase another, and return your original in the 2nd box for a refund....

I feel your pain and I hope it works out for you. Anything you can do to avoid the return/replacement process through accessories.ford.com should be avoided. The return process could take months and if you used Ford Rewards points it will be a nightmare getting them back, and if you do, they will not return all your points used. Yes, that was my experience and I will never purchase anything from accessories.ford.com... ever.

Yep I used rewards…buying the pieces at the dealer just seems easier…..I am pretty handy once I have all of the needed items and can take it from there.

Luckily, I did not order a soft top or something really expensive. Lesson learned to avoid accessories.ford.com.

WoW OP that is horrid. I ordered from Ford as well, and I can attest to how the box comes. I had it shipped to my dealer, and when I went to pick up, I was amazed on how bad the box was. Luckily, I had a second box, and the part box was taped inside that box.

Good luck with getting your other parts. The tailgate is worth it.

That is odd. I ordered the performance front tow hooks and they each came in a box, wrapped with bubble wrap. They were in another box wrapped in paper and that box was in another box. This is the second time I ordered a part that came in multiple boxes.

We've had this happen twice and was able to get the parts replaced through the FAD. Depending where it came from, they will need a copy of the invoice in order to claim it from Ford or whomever the vendor packing it Ford is using.

Ford is looking into this to see what they can do. Fingers crossed.

I called a dealer parts department and the needed parts would run me $180 minus tax. If Ford fails, prepared to just order the missing parts at my own cost, and avoid Ford accessories site and move on from this.

I heard about this happening to people before. Was nervous when I got mine but all the parts were in there. The box was pretty beat up. The cover for the slide out tailgate was also a little melted. But certainly nothing worth returning over.

Hope you get the missing parts free. The slide out tailgate is totally worth the hassle

Did you try disputing with your credit card company? That chargeback usually gets someone's attention.

Update: Ford is sending the missing parts out to me as expedited. I should be getting the parts by Monday or Tuesday next week.
They made it right.
