I'm trying to decide between the 5 gal WaterPort ($399) or the 4 gal Midnight Forest ($349). My uses would be drinking water, washing dishes, and shower.

The WaterPort is hand pumped and comes with hose and nozzle. They also sell a hands free sink and shower kit for an additional $139.

The Midnight Forest has multiple options, just the tank for $199, a 400 psi pressure washer kit for $279 and a 60 psi nozzle kit for $349. I think value wise the Midnight Forest with the 60 psi nozzle is the way to go. But an extra gallon of water without using additional space is tempting. Also, the WaterPort seems to be the most popular option around here. Just curious if anyone has experience with these or has come up with different solutions.

Thank you for sharing these.

I have been considering using water bladders recently. I already have an 8L hydrapak, but that's only good for 1-2 days of drinking and cooking, not showering.

I carry 2 10L for washing and rinsing which is plenty for around 10 days. I carry RO water for drinking and cooking in other containers up to around 12L which is good for around 3 days at which point I can start drinking tap water or buy a couple gallons of spring water which is fine since I need to get gas every 1-4 days anyway.

Many days on many extended trips in the field here is the advice I have.

I’ve never wished I had high psi in the field. Shower from a gravity feed works fine but for a luxury use a low psi shower pump you drop into a water jug. low cost and easy to use on most any container and you can use it away from the vehicle.

Do not use one container for both potable (drinking) and non potable (washing) water. Always have 2 containers.
You can always, maybe not the desert people, find a source of non potable water in the field. You want to be able to refill one of the containers with non potable once it empties of drinking water.
Start the trip both with drinking water. Once home after the trip if you had to pickup non potable water from the field, you can sterilize the container so next trip you can start with 2 potable containers again.

Midnight Forest Rain Basin with the 60 psi nozzle kit ($349) beats the hand-pumped WaterPort on value and constant electric pressure.

What is your setup?
it’s not high tech and won’t win any innovation awards, you can use the new cool stuff but here is how I do it.

For general camping like in the Bronco.
I have a few of the cube water jugs with the pour spout lids from Reliance.
2 of these is usually enough for me to be wasteful.
Easy to dispense from with the valve spout lid. Easy to pack being a cube. The large mouth opening makes it easy to fill in the field, easier to clean out and I can drop a small pump directly into the jug to shower.
Reliance is the brand of cube jugs I’ve used for decades.
