I agree and I wouldn’t want to replace the steering wheel because yes that’s not an efficient solution. But I was also afraid if I cut it the whole thing might unravel.
I actually had the same issue on my Tundra and just cut it back with a pair of scissors. Can confirm it's all good and looks much better.

I didn't consider the lighter suggestions noted above - Something about putting a flame to a vehicle just seems like a bad idea 🤣

Here comes the Tundra engine exploding recall comments... 🙄

Military members have to deal with strings like this all the time and the lighter is the solution. You may want to wrap the surrounding areas in tinfoil to protect them from the heat and either rotate the wheel so you're dipping a long BBQ lighter onto the thread or coming up from underneath it. Fire, usually, likes to go one way, up.

I had the same little bit of string and it tickled my finger from day one, until one day I got some nail clippers and clipped it off. It was very annoying!

I wish I would've thought of a lighter; that's the way to go, IMO. Lighter fluid doesn't burn that hot and the amount of time to curl it, you ain't gonna hurt anything.

I.P. scissors are the solution.

(apparently IP was "Irish Pennant" ... have no idea on the meaning, just what they called them.)
