Hey All!

I recently purchased a 2023 2 door Outer Banks and am absolutely loving it. Haven't had any problems and have been very pleasantly surprised when it comes to common complaints that I've heard about the Broncos prior to buying one.

Unfortunately, the other day, I hopped in to move my car for a friend parking, and noticed a little rattling sound when I turned the steering wheel. This was one of the first times that I had driven the car without my phone connected or the radio playing, so no idea how long it's been present, but the first time I had heard it.

Over the last couple of days, I've double checked to make sure, and sure enough, whenever I turn my steering wheel about a quarter to a half rotation from straight, I hear this little plastic rattling sound inside of the steering wheel. It sounds like when you have a little piece of plastic break off inside of something and shake it. Not really sure what it could possibly be.

Any thoughts of what it might be or if there's anything I can do? Driving me a little bit crazy when I hear it, but seems absurd to go to a dealership over something so small and, honestly, inconsequential.

Thanks much and looking forward to exploring the Bronco community!

I have no idea what it could be, but funny story..
I did a PDI a few years back on an F150 that had a similar concern right off the transport truck. Turned out to be a pen cap behind the airbag left by someone during assembly. So at this point I’d say it could possibly be anything lol

HA! That's absolutely insane! I can't even imagine the double take you must have taken when you saw that.

I had seen a video somewhere where someone had just had their tires replaced and started hearing a strange thunking sound when they were driving down the road. They popped the tire off the wheel, and they found that the shop that had replaced the tires had somehow managed to leave a wrench and a pair of pliers INSIDE of the tire when mounting it...

Lol yeah crazy things happen. Hopefully your noise is an easy fix, I would probably just bring it into the dealer and have them listen to it. Could be something as easy as one of the connectors behind the airbag just loose and moving around.

I do hear a very very faint noise when moving the wheel quickly during parking but it’s very faint so I haven’t been stressing over it

Hi there! Would you send us a private message with your VIN and dealership name and location? I’d like to look into this concern on my end.

I actually just had this same problem. it wasn't too loud but definitely noticeable. the dealer replaced the clock spring which wasn't the problem. it was actually something in the air bag compartment. Get it looked at ASAP. if you have the same problem. I would hate to have what ever is in there hit me in the face in an accident.

Thank you for your response! I think I had actually read your thread at some point. I'm glad that they were able to resolve the problem for you. Maybe it is worth going to the dealership for it... no one likes plastic shrapnel lol

That's funny. I did a PDI on a Bronco last week and found an EBT card laying with the accessories
