There’s also 2 rear antennas.
If they can’t detect the fob, grabbing the handle isn’t going to do anything. A lot of issues like this are caused by the antennas.

I've noticed that the "touch handles" won't work if the respective door isn't shut tight. I have to unlock all doors some other way, then shut the door tight, then touch handles work again. Just another "quirk" I live with until i get rid of it.

Very good point and worth considering.

However I hadn't touched or opened the doors between the time they didn't work until when they did work.

Thanks for the reply. I was hoping you'd weigh in. The rear antennas would explain the tailgate not working, but not the right passenger door not working, unless I'm missing something.

One antenna out can do some crazy things surprisingly. Multiple people have had issues with vehicles not sensing the fob or even not being able to start when a rear antenna has accidentally been left unplugged, even though it should be picked up by other antennas much more easily. So it’s certainly a possibility.

I wouldn’t worry too much about it unless it happens again.

My bumper to bumper expires in April. My concern is having an expensive repair later. I just want to either fix this before then or be sure it won't return.

But I'm also inclined to not worry because it's just an inconvenience. The driver door sensor still worked and I could still use the button on the key fob to unlock my Bronco.

I think moisture may have got into the sensor assembly in the door handles. It's the only thing that makes sense to me. I may spend some time with a spray bottle and see if I can recreate the problem. If I can't I'll forget about it.

Things like this is why I refuse to mess with factory wiring.

FYI to everyone. There's a lot of discussion in the news about AI. I decided to try to use AI (ChatGPT) to troubleshoot. I gave it a description of the symptoms and the wiring diagrams I posted on here.

I didn't get anything useful from it after I finished pointing out its errors in reading the diagrams.

It's a good tool for doing calculations though.

So mine '24 Badlands has an issue I think I posted here earlier but to clarify, sometimes the front doors don't work when I approach and just pull on the handle, the back doors NEVER work with touching the handle and the tailgate absolutely doesn't work and sometime doesn't work with the fob. I always approach the truck with the fob in my hand. then when I do get in the dash tells me there's no key.

The back doors aren’t supposed to work. They don’t have the touch sensors. Only the front doors and tailgate.

If you’ve had anything installed in the rear, like tow package or anything else, I would check the 2 antennas in the back and make sure they’re plugged in. Very common issue.

That makes me wonder if my system generated any errors when I tried to open the passenger door or tailgate.

Actually mine (Sasquatch) does have a touch sensor and if I hold the fob up to it, it works. Same with the ignition. If I place the fob under the dash directly under the starter button the engine starts, otherwise, crickets.

So if you touch it with your hand, it NEVER works, but if you touch it with the keyfob it unlocks? I don't have touch unlock, so I dunno - but in most cars I've seen with it, it's just the fronts, not the rears.

Pretty sure all the Broncos starter buttons, at least of those operating normally, will start the Bronco if you place the fob under the dash. But requiring the fob to be in that one specific location - you got something funky going on.

Your car shouldn't unlock just because you have the keyfob close. You either need to touch the handle, hit the unlock button on the fob, use Fordpass to unlock the door, or some other affirmative action for the doors to actually unlock. Just because you walk up with a fob in your pocket happy to see your Bronco, it shouldn't just unlock.

Sasquatch is a suspension/offroad package basically, so that doesn’t have any relevance on door handles.

But you must be referring to something else.
I’m talking about what you said about the rear doors.

Nothing is supposed to happen when you touch the handle on the back doors of a 4 door. None of the Broncos have captive touch sensor handles in the rear doors. Only the front doors and the tailgate.
