That comment from Zeldin was a couple of months ago. The rescinding of that clause was then supposed to go to a 45 day public input period. It apparently never emerged after that period. I have not been able to find anything concrete about it one way or the other.

Right. If the 6g had been a 2dr only generation, they no doubt would have sold more 2drs than having the 4dr option because some of the 4dr people would have bought a 2dr instead of nothing. However, probably not enough to make Ford decide to bring it back on it's own. So they sell less 2drs and a lot of 4drs because, as George Carlin observed many moons ago, people need somewhere to cram all their stuff. lol
What I tell people when asked is, if they are not married to the idea of a 2 door, they should buy a 4 door. They just generally make better sense. That said, I put a ring on a 2 door because at the end of the day, 2 doors are for making babies and 4 doors are for hauling them around. Your call.

Now that the 6g has arrived, they can quietly retire the 2 door and send it the way of the do-do in favor of the volume seller.
Let's pray not. I have one of each and I completely understand why they both exist. Even though sitting in the driver's seat, the view forward is identical, the the 4-door invokes a small fraction of the emotional response of the 2-door for both me and my wife. If they were to discontinue the 2-door and sell only 4-doors with a bunch of 1966 Easter eggs on it, I would tell anyone who asks that it is a complete lie. They don't make Broncos anymore, but only a truck they call a Bronco. They need to figure out a way to maintain the 2-door, even if its a break even or low volume/special order only affair. Accountants and Wall Street have no clue that there are things that bring value outside of a dollar and cents bottom line.

Edit: imagine if Mazda made a more sporty CX-50 and put the Miata badge on IT and discontinued THE MIATA. It wouldn't be a Miata. And I doubt Mazda would do it because they realize that even if the Miata is very low volume, it is probably 75% of their entire brand identity outside of flings with rotary engines.

No surprise. Look at what they did by putting the Mustang badge on a 4-door jellybean shaped EV SUV.
It's another Mustang II, just over 50 years later.

Many here are too young to remember that abomination in person. I had to live with it after dad got one in '75 for commuting. Two door hatchback with a pathetic strangled 2.3L 4-cyl. He tried stripping out all the pollution control crap, but was was still puny...

light though. Swap a 302 in, and they'd boogie.

Your example is more akin to Ford putting a Mustang badge on the Mach-E.

History has plenty examples of models that had 2-door and 4-door versions.

Just my example of the 2009-2014 CTS/CTS-V. That model came in 4 door first, then 2-door and Wagon variants.

Yeah, I know your response, "But the original Bronco was a 2-door only". Well so was the original Dodge Charger, but when the recently retired model was introduced, it came as a 4-door ONLY, and it didn't seem to affect its success. I don't recall the general public saying, "It's not a real Charger".

I remember them, but at least they were somewhat good-looking. Ford did what they had to do to keep the nameplate alive. Heck, most of the cars from the Malaise Era were choked and gutless.

My ex-wife brought a 1979 Mustang Ghia into the marriage. It was the first year of the new body style, but the only redeeming quality it had was that it was a manual, but it was no improvement over the Mustang II from a performance standpoint. It was a total POS!

True, but there was also the Challenger, which is were I put my own money because it was cooler. :) They prostituted the Mustang name to sell Mach Es, but they didn't kill Mustangs off.
IMHO, the 2-door (maybe put the manual tranny in there too) is the spirit and connection to the "original" that is the basis of the whole marketing strategy and brand. But I'm old and the seed of my Bronco obsession sprouted in childhood lusting after them and building scale models of the unobtainable. Maybe it's a completely different angle for those born post-'96. But as a 4D only, it seems the segment competition starts getting far broader with some worthy contenders for consumer dollars. Bronco becomes a far less special product as a whole....IMHO.

Except Ford didn't discontinue the actual Mustang. Isn't the Mach-E going away?

It just boggles my mind that there are so many people who hate the 2dr even being sold. I don't mind the 4dr, and sure, 2dr vehicles in general are on the wane these days compared to the past. But there are people who like and want them and if Ford offers them, so what. Same to the 2dr trolls; 4drs ain't going away. WTH, everybody, get over it. 🤐

I just saw a 2 door base returning from lunch. It looked so smmallll, like a toy, A WWII era Willys has more of a presence.

I think the 4 doors look more proportional to the Bronco's from the 1970's

In other words you 2 door fans are delusional

Ok, carry on  :ROFLMAO:

I think the Mach E is a great car for what it is - an EV crossover. But it never should have been called a ā€œMustangā€ with its unrelated powertrain and body style.

From a styling perspective, the Mach-E looks more like a fatter Fusion than a Mustang.

By no means am I proposing that the Bronco should be a 4-door only. As for me, I needed a somewhat practical vehicle (if you can call a lifted truck on 35s practical) since my other vehicles are anything but that. They can't realistically accommodate more than one passenger, come out only during fair weather and are usually stored for 1/3 to sometimes almost half the year given our winters here in Michigan.

We often camp and head up to Northern Michigan so I wanted a somewhat more rugged vehicle (previous was a BMW X5). Choices were a Jeep, (not really interested in them for a number of reasons), a new 4-Runner or Land Cruiser as I owned a Land Cruiser in the past and I regret giving it up even though it had 160K miles, but I wasn't interested in a hybrid.

So, it came down to a 4-door Bronco.

If I had another 4-door SUV in the garage, I might've gone with the 2-door.

^^ 100% There's nothing wrong with the vehicle, it's just not a Mustang no matter how many tri-bar running pony emblems they put on it. Just like the Bronco Sport and Bronco II are not Broncos.
Curious your reasoning why the Bronco II is not a real Bronco?

Maybe the 2dr 6G Ranger based Bronco is not a real Bronco either?? Mine’s a 4 door so it’s basically a lifted Flex.
