Ranger did not become its own vehicle until the 1'st half year of the "baby" ranger 1983.5.
They were on dealer lots in Fall 1982 as 1983 models. I test drove one as part of my search for my first 4x4. I ended up ordering a Chevy S-10 instead for the extended cab, which I received in April 1983.

Perhaps you were right and it was 82.5
mine was the first half year but that was a long time ago.

I'm going to risk being declared a heretic, here. If you've never driven an EV, the instant, like RIGHT NOW torque from throttle tip in, is pretty dang nice. There is ZERO waiting for RPM to build. I bet it could be very handy in many off road situations. Oh, and "one pedal" driving is kind of an amazing revolution in driving. I love it.
OK, let me have it....

BOOOOOOO.....🍅🥬🥦🍈🍑🍊🍌🥕🌶🥑.

Edit: These days the younger generation might ask, "What's that third pedal for?" Some day the question might be "What's that second pedal for?" or they might skip straight to "What the heck is down there that I hitting my feet on?"

I personally support EV options. As long as they stay as options. I'm personally uninterested in them (EV) but their existence doesn't offend me until someone tries to tell me I must have one.

An EV powertrain is just so smooth & drama-free, perfectly boring. It's really hard to beat for a DD, if the rest of the parameters meet your needs. I've really enjoyed our MachE (our first EV), and the driving experience is remarkably refined. It's a great addition to the fleet. But I agree with hawk, it has to be a choice, not a mandate. 🤠

They should've just called it the Mach-E.
Ford should have brought back Mercury and made Merc their "EV Marque". Then they could have called it a Marauder.

Lightning could have been an M-150

As I’ve said before - you better get one while you can, before they “Explorer” the charm out of it. Unibody? No thanks!

I kinda like the idea of Mercury as an EV division.

Nobody here in the US wants them, but the rest of the world is embracing them.
EV sales in the U.S. reached a new record in Q3 of 2025. Every calendar year has seen a sizable increase in sales from the preceding year: CarEdge.

There is still loads of potential for more people to buy BEVs for commuter use and urban/suburban. Even given the current state of the technology, I can see a lot of families having one BEV and one ICE vehicle to get the best of each.

My Bro-in-law has a deposit on the range extended version of the Scout SUV. I must say I'm intrigued how that thing comes out. Having deep ties to VW does not give me the highest level of confidence, though.

The increase in EV sales in the 3rd quarter is bit inflated as people rushed to make those purchases before the government incentives ended in September.

We will see if the demand continues now that those vehicles have to stand on their own merit without the incentives.

Good point - I'd forgotten about that. However, there still has been good growth year-to-year this decade. At some future point I expect the growth to flatten out unless the tech improves a lot.

I was looking into BEVs last night out of curiosity, as a hypothetical option if something happened to our DD. I was surprised how reasonable prices are now for basic BEVs. It used to be that you'd have to pay a lot more upfront to get the benefits of lower operating costs over time, but it looks like that's no longer the case.

Low operating cost starting to go away as many places are hitting evs with a road tax. They tax fuel to pay for roads. Free ride is close to over.
