I feel pretty confident that Ford didn't add port injection to save you from deposits on your valves. Very likely it was due to emissions and/or fuel mileage. Seems to be the driver for most OE's nowadays. JMHO, your mileage may vary.
Actually direct injection creates more power and better fuel milage than port injection. Period.

At the time Ford introduced the change to the 2.7 from 100% direct injection to the combination of direct and port they were having longevity/deposit issues with the valves on the 2.7. It is my assumption these were correlated.

It does make sense since Top Tier gasolines were agreed upon in the 90s between ASAE and the petroleum distributers to add certain amounts of cleaners and detergents to get the "Top Tier" seal These cleaners/detergents were specifically designed to target deposits on the valves and related components as a means of increasing durability/longevity.

Direct injection does not allow any of those cleaners/detergents to flow across any components (other than injectors) prior to injection into the cylinder.

Again I am making assumptions but based on somewhat of a knowledge base.

Interesting that ford must recognize that and sell an additional one....
that's hardly evidence that "Ford recognized it was inadequate". All that is, is proof that Ford recognized people will buy anything if it says "Ford Performance" on it.

The ford performance one didn't seem to catch anything yet. I've only had it about a month. If you put a catch can on the PCV line it will catch oil the stock system mises. I would say the stock system lets an adequate amount of oil into the intake manifold but it could be worthwhile to stop some of it from getting past if you're into that sort of thing.
I like stopping it because it is not suppose to be there and I do not like it getting burnt onto the back side of my valves. There is no positive side to having that oil vapor in that location.

I’m curious as to why this would be necessary. Shouldn’t the vehicle be equipped with one already? Does anyone have an air/oil separator installed and does it boost performance in anyway or is it an overpriced do nothing device?

I'm am ASE master technician since 1993. The bottom line is this item in not necessary for most drivers, and not necessary for lower performance engines. Turbocharged engines that constantly run at high rpm could utilize a separator, but I don't think there's ever been a failure on a Bronco due to the "problem" this solves. I don't believe it hurts anything, and most likely improves on the factory design, but what you are actually gaining from it is unclear. Not hating on the companies that produce these things, but if Ford could reduce warranty claims by using this part you can bet it would be on every engine they sell.

My argument is that it will NOT reduce warranty claims.... I believe it will not have any significant effects until the motor is well over 100K.... It is at that point build up on the valves starts to become an issue.... Some may not see it until 200K... others sooner. But for me, I intend to keep this vehicle until I can no longer drive.... So it makes sense to me.

Get one if it would make you feel good. I like IAG, I have their steps. I installed them before my Bronco left the dealership. But I can't see why one of these is needed for a stock engine. You can bet if oil in the intake was a problem EPA would require this on new vehicles.

I’m putting my IAG in this week to replace my (soon for sale) dirty side J&L - it gets oil in it it and it’s PITA extra maintenance item for me, although they put a drain port on it and I could easily rig something up.

The other advantage of the IAG for me will be access: getting away from the OEM PCV fitting setup -talk about a PITA esp. using picks or a special tool to open up the line, with the Injen and I guess probably other charge pipe setups. Driver side PCV accessible up top and and not in the well, I’ll take it. I have enough trouble servicing the charge pipe t-clamps down on that side.

Have you received a CARB EO yet?
Thanks
No, that process takes a year or 2 after submission. We are still waiting on our EO for the Subaru AOS.

I'm thinking of getting the IAG AOS for my 2024 with the 2.7. I have about 23K miles so far. Do I need to do anything after installation to "clean up" the time prior to installation?

My recommendation would be just use good quality top tier gas... Unless you want to tear the heads apart...

Personally I would probably not go that far though... I would just use good gas... I am not big on the "additives" though.
