Hey Guys, thanks for all the responses. To be clear, I noticed some cracks in the top, sent pictures to the dealer they ordered a placement (wrong one by the way) and said Ford will cover it. A couple days later, the day before I was scheduled to go in, the roof was making a very loud flapping noise and eventually was slapping against my rear window. I was worried it would come off completely and hit a car behind me. I pulled off and it was barely hanging on so I removed it, came off very easily. The dealer is trying to have them pay for this, again I'm out of warranty, if someone knows of a better way please let me know. Thank you!!

Extended warranty! With today’s new vehicle complexities, I think you have 2 options. First, trade the vehicle in before the factory warranty expires; or second, purchase an extended OEM factory warranty when you purchase the vehicle and keep the vehicle until just before the extended warranty expires because with any new vehicle built today you will probably have enough things go wrong with it to get your money back for the purchase price of the warranty. Yes I know some things that go wrong will not be covered by the warranty, but enough things will probably go wrong to cover the price of the warranty.

It sounds like Ford is partially good willing the repair already if they're only charging you $2000 for a new hard top. Is that correct?

Extended warranty doesn't cover the top.

Well, 15 days out of my warranty and the hard top literally blew off, Ford is charging me over $2,000.00 to replace.

Get the replacement for free, sell it immediately and replace with a soft top or Armadillo's top (since it's the only 2dr hard top).

I got the sarcasm. I was just curious because until this thread I had never seen a hardtop peel back completely or separate like this.

Regardless, I think trying to guess a failure percentage is just wild speculation. There’s no possible way to know.
yeah- this is certainly a worst case, but delaminating doesn’t stop when it cracks.

for what it’s worth- I was in the camp that this was a minimal issue until it happened on mine and I went down the rabbit hole. Ford will never publish data, so it is wild speculation.

Being an operational leader- failure rates exceeding 1% is a systemic problem, rate of 5% is abject failure. With all the anecdotal evidence, this is a problem and Ford is ignoring it.

Brilliant! And just discontinue the 2 door since it doesn't come with soft top as an option at all, right? Again, brilliant!
I'm still waiting to order a soft top 2-door from the factory. I'll have nothing to do with the MIC top. You might not be far off....

Ford Motor Company bot: please send us your VIN on a private message and we will be happy to waste your time by referring you to your dealer whom you have already contacted.

On a more serious and hopeful note - this is starting to cross the line between a cosmetic nuisance and a safety issues, which increases the chances of the NTHSA doing something about it as the issue becomes more prevalent.

There was a class action lawsuit filed against Ford today regarding the Sport and Maverick batteries. Chances are within 2 years there will be one about the MICs
Agreed on the bold. Wait until a big chunk of this crap flies off on the road and takes out somebody on a motorcycle.

Fortunately, ford was smart enough not to make the tops out of some sort of metal. Otherwise this would have been…oh wait never mind that would have prevented this and been smart.
Or they could’ve just manufactured them the way Jeep has been successfully for over 30 years.

I wonder if a guy can just remove the top, carefully remove with an xacto knife and a scraper for a proportional rectangular area, mask off, prep, then Rhino-paint it? Then, if that fails, go for other options...
If mine fails out of warranty, it’s gonna go to a fiberglass guy.

There are two large problems that I’m aware of that Ford isn’t handling correctly. At least they are covering the tops that are still under warranty. If you have a transmission failure after flat towing a bronco while still under warranty though, they will blame it on the user a large percentage of the time. There’s no way to prove you followed the tow procedure properly even if you video yourself doing it. (Which many owners are doing now).
