this tool is a joke , why did ford use /supply this when a screw like this with a Phillips head would do. I stripped one screw when it didn't go in the proper swivel pin rod , the steel thread are very soft.
went to local HW store and got some different screws and used a regular screw driver.

the heck with the funky handle triangle head tool

Unique may equal added security in Ford's mind. If you can get these out cleanly anti-seize could help with it going back in.

security ! maybe , who is going around stealing bronco luggage racks . only fits broncos 2 doors ( on mine ) I think 4/more doors would be longer racks.

well you can completely lock a cargo box or accessory to the rack. if the rack itself is easy to take off then they'd steal everything in one go!

They supply the tool required for the special heads so that you don't overtorque the screws.

The supplied special tool stops turning the fastener when you have proper torque applied.

I picked up a secondhand rack and did not have the tool. 7mm 6 point socket works just fine. A trained hand or clutched drill can manage to control the torque.

I wanted to thank you!! I had my Bronco at a custom installer and we were scratching our heads trying to figure out what to do because the tool that was supposed to remove the roof rack wasn’t included in my tool packet. I was stressing because it took forever for my KC lights to come in and without the tool we were stuck.

I ran across your post on Google and read out your suggestion. He grabbed a 6 mm and were in business again!! Thank you Gronko!!
