Frame mount for sure. I built mine and for southeast woods wheelin they need to be a minimum flush with the outside of the door for when you slide into a tree. If your west coast wheelin buy some "dimple die tube crap" and you will be fine.

Here are my RCI frame mount sliders. Show me where I lose more than say 2 inches at MOST outside of the physical body (which would crumple like paper on the right rock) and I’ll buy you a coke.

Is there any concern about getting hung up on a rock in between the frame mounting tubes? What about perhaps adding some rails or skids to those tubes, so if the Bronco inadvertently comes down on a rock, it won't get wedged up into the gaps?

I prefer frame mounting, but have been wondering about the frame mounting tubes becoming an issue with rocks.

Makes sense but at some point added weight becomes a factor.

Body mounted are probably all most owners need…l am going with JCR aluminum frame mounted ones…I like the look better than tube…will probably combo weld/bolt them on…like the light weight but may be giving up some strength…we will see…

I have the Metalcloak body mounted sliders. I did the full Rubicon at the end of September and dropped the weight of the vehicle on them more than once. They held up just fine and didn't cause me any issues. I'd say I'm very happy with how they performed. Main reason I went with the body mount is I also have a small body lift in addition to the suspension lift to help with rubbing of the 37's and didn't want a gap between the sliders and the body.

If you need to go frame mounted for peace of mind, go for it. Just know my body mounted took a beating and held just fine. My thoughts, if you are going to be a super serious big boulder rock crawler in NEED of frame mounted sliders, then you probably shouldn't have bought an IFS vehicle.

Regarding the original question about the arm length of the slider away from the frame causing a lever: Jim, the owner of Wild Horses Off Road (A Bronco only store in California, mostly selling early Bronco parts) also has a 2 door 6th gen. His frame mounted slider bent up and damaged the pinch weld. I saw it myself. It was minor, but it can happen.

I guess the moral is buyer beware. The quality of the slider probably matters more than the way it actually mounts.

I don't do rocks... I'm a fast sand and desert junk but I can't imagine it's a significant issue because of the stuff in front - the wheels, lower skids, etc... it would have to be a really unique rock or set of rocks to be a problem in my extremely humble opinion.

To many people in this thread are not realizing that a lot of these sliders are not quality steel or designed right. I use my slider to get around rocks, drag them and smash them. With such a low clearance platform rock sliders will take a massive amount of punishment. I put my money on stock rock rails more than 1/2 the aftermarket options.

I have been eyeing some DIY DOM tubing ones. I just like the look of square more! Not sure I want to build as set, its kind of a rabbit hole and I would go overboard on steel. My version would be 150 pounds a side lol.
I think I am going to build something similar to Carli's rock sliders...

Here is another that is bolted not welded:

Frame mount. I think you're good.

Look at the flex on those body mount sliders at SLOW speeds. Look at the dents in the lower panel. There is NO WAY I'd take body over frame.
Anyone who gets steps or sliders should do it properly and get frame mounted. If your saving money then keep saving and eventually get the frame mounted sliders. There is no comparison is terms of strength.

3/16 2" square tubing is what I used. Needed more supports as it has bent. I do like how they mount. LOD does a similar mount. I am watching to see if some post some damaged sliders, need to see what doesn't work before I build another set. I am also eyeing some 1.5"x3" square tubing and just frame mounting it.

Square sliders just look good with plate bumpers!

Any recommendations for frame mounted sliders that include UHMW? I really like the Next Venture sliders, and they have them for 2dr (!), however they're body mounted and I have video evidence an early version from seven months ago did bend into the door precisely where I'd like to go (e.g., why I want them). (Note, the video did not have UHMW, but the hit looks like it came from below.)

So what are some really good 2dr rock sliders that are frame mounted and (🤞) have UHMW? Right now it seems like I should be considering RCI, LOD and MetalTech 4x4, but I don't think either support sliding material.

The LOD Light rock Sliders are aluminum with an option for a bolt on Steel Skid plate. It's not UHMW, but does let you change out the surface if you're worried. I can't say I've tested it extensively but I had no problem sliding with the destroyers.

These Rock Hard Sliders are body mounted and thick. Mount to body bolts, and have several other mount points than other sliders I’ve seen. Most body mounted sliders only mount to the body bolts.

Completely cover the ugly pinch welds and have more clearance. You can get angled up or down or flat. Jeep world has been using them long time so I don’t think you will have any problems for most obstacles. Made in USA.
