Do I need Advanced 4wd (4A)?

OP here and thanks for all the comments and suggestions for my 4A question. I do have another question and that's about ordering a Bronco. I think I read the order banks are currently closed for Bronco ordering correct? Are they going to open again for the 23MY? If so, what item(s) builds, etc are expected to be constrained? I have a couple of Maverick's on order and plan on giving up on one of those to go after a Bronco so I haven't been keeping up with what's happening with the Bronco lately.

I may be able to find what I want on a lot here already but first I have to figure out exactly what I want, lol. Also someone mentioned a rear locker. Do I really need that in my use case?

I vote yes, it is a sweet spot for a 4x4 to have since you get additional traction and control without drivetrain issues.

If I could ask for one more option for the Bronco it'd be an eLSD for the rear, where it can function from 0-100 lockup. It could act like a Posi to make RWD more effective and fun, it'd make the 4A extremely effective, and you could still have normal 4H/4L operation when desired. I would have easily skipped my Lux package for one of those.

Just gotta add.... put it in 2W and literally go skidding down the road and drifting around corners. It's a blast. My wife loses her shit on me but whatever.

This is the best, mine grips the handles like the second coming of Christ, while the kids are in the back laughing with smiles.

While it's nice I would say no not that important. I've run straight 4wd for 40 years in the snow with no issues. I'm not even sure what the issues are everybody talks about when running regular 4wd in the snow.

This..... I have had around 60 miles commute to work, most of my adult life in rural MN, millions of miles driven, drive my vehicles into the ground, 4H works great for me.

I don't drive in 4A all the time, but it has the "Set it and forget it" feature 4H/4L don't.
In rainy day, light snow day I leave it on without worrying too much damaging the transfer case.

If you don't mind switching it manually, don't get it.
But if you like the convenience it brings, then yes.

I can see it. Inclines with stop signs at the top. Roads that get slick in the rain, wet leaves, deeply rutted roads that collect water, etc.

My Ram 1500 with Nitto Ridge Grapplers sucked on wet roads. I have flipped on 4H to get across an intersection or start on inclines.

My Bronco has enough tire and better weight distribution so that it handles those same spots easily in 2wd. A base with a 2.7 and stock base tires might be different.

I dont have advanced obx but i do have the 4.27 gearing option that believe comes with it. That was an unexpected bonus for my driving style. It makes the 2.3 fun. If i lived in snow id definitely get the advanced.

I've had some close calls losing traction suddenly on a slippery spot while pulling out or similar... Scary.

I'm looking into getting a 2dr Bronco and was wondering what the general consensus here is on extended warranties on the Bronco? I would be getting a 2dr with the 2.3 engine. I'm not sure if there are any known isses with the 2.3 or the 10 speed auto in general or any other known issues? Also what do these extended Ford warranties run on a Bronco? I would most likely get a BB or an OBX with few (if any) options.

If you haven't had it on order for over a year you are going to have trouble getting into one. I think order banks are closed still, and "constraints" are still a joke. With a lot of searching in a wide area you can probably find one off the lot but I doubt at msrp.

You may not “need” 4A, but it sure is nice. My BL has been in 4A the last couple of months. Driving conditions a lot of times is scattered slippery and dry patches where it would be impracticable to switch in and out of 4WD. I’ve been impressed with the 4A system, probably makes me think my BFG KO2’s are better than they are, I’ve rarely slipped a wheel and when I have it’s been going around a corner on glare ice and I’ve punched it.

That's really the reason I asked about whether 4A is needed or not. I've seen lots of posts about how driving in 4wd for long distances is not advised (or at high speeds). Not sure what to make of it, lol.

People who say that are full of crap. 4A works fine for daily driving, I have 62k miles to prove it. The advanced 4x4 transfer case has better gearing for low range and is allegedly stronger.

I have had 0 problems with it and predominantly drive around in 4A Sport mode in the OBX. For $795, yes, it's totally worth it. If you don't get it, it's not the end of the world, but a rear locker and advanced 4x4 gives you a lot of bang for your buck.

Excuse my ignorance but what exactly is a rear locker and what will it do for me? I really wish they offered the 4A on either the base (without SAS) or the BB
