M210=front M220=rear. Options are stock sasquatch takeoffs (will always be 4.70 w/locker, since all squatch are), or dana "ultimate" fdu, which is available in ratios up to 5.38, and can be ordered to accept larger 35 spline cv axles. Rear once again all squatch takeoffs are gonna be the same, and dana offers a D60 semifloat which should be pretty bulletproof (but not a cheap date).
Really good to know! I had seen an M190 front diff for sale and when I asked about it the seller said you should always get take offs rebuilt before putting them on..? Does that seem right? Just wondering if I do take offs if the cost to rebuild would equal just putting a new one on? Thanks!

Don't forget you've got to deal with the FAD from the M190 being eliminated to if going to an M210, I don't know if a solution was ever found for that, or guys are still running around with half the M190 zip tied to their frames..

ya front and rear gotta be the same ratio or it will lock up in 4wd. All Bronco are M220 rear, and all the ratios are available for them (however some gears like 3.73 were welded to the carrier, so that's gotta be changed too...which gives you the excuse to put a locker in!). This kinda stuff runs into money fast!
Good to know! Definitely learning a lot from this thread so far.. lucky I ordered my BB with the 4.27 so I have the rear locker already!

If the seller is telling you that, I wouldn't trust the axle he's selling ;)

If you have Ford perf tune, the procal tool can do it, and adjust ratio/tire size.

Good to know! Definitely learning a lot from this thread so far.. lucky I ordered my BB with the 4.27 so I have the rear locker already!
In that case (I believe), you can just replace ring/pinion in that rear end to match a 4.70 if needed

Not 100% sure… all the dealership really said was that the gearing inside the front differential was basically completely gone.
Did I miss something...why is the diff not covered under warranty?

What size tires are you running? What kind of off-roading were you doing? Were your front tires spinning wildly and finally gained traction?

At any rate you could swap in an M210 from Ford Performance for WELL under $4500, but, unless you are bigger than 33's or were really abusing the front I think this should be warrantied.

I'm probably wrong, but I thought the m210 was the front diff and the m220 the rear diff?
100% correct.

There is no direct upgrade path from a M190 to an M220 for the front axle.

That is good news/bad news. Good: you already have a rear locker and Broncos with 4.27 do not have FAD for some reason. Bad: 210 fdus are not available in 4.27. So the front or rear would have to be regeared. Maybe the 44 could be had set up in 4.27.

The m190 on the lower trims is a Dana 35.

The stock m210 FDU is a Dana 44, the only difference between that and the “ultimate” FDU from Dana is that the ultimate (still a 210) is a 32-spine axle, the Ford version is 29 spline.

Basically, if you don't have a front locker, you have the m190. If you do have a front locker from Ford, you have the m210 29 spline with ELD. If you bought the Dana Ultimate FDU, you have an m210 with ELD with a 32-spline axle.

The m220 is also a Dana 44 (I know they are 10mm apart, that's what Dana calls it tho), but for the rear end. Dana calls these AdvanTEK - supposedly able to handle torque with a smaller gear size (the original D44 was 226mm, these are 220/210mm)

The “Ultimate” rear end is the Dana 60, and it's much beefier, and available in standard and wide widths (all with ELD), all the other non-Raptor rear ends are D44 m220 - either with ELD or without (they are slightly different and have 32 spline axles, but the axles are slightly different lengths).

Raptors have the Dana 50 (m235) in the rear, and the m210 up front.

Any Ford differentials without an ELD have the ring gear laser welded to the carrier. (I'm not 100% certain on the m190, but that's definitely true for the m220 - but i haven't seen anything aftermarket for the m190 either). That means if you want to re-gear or add a locker, you have to replace both the gear set and the entire carrier assembly. Just an extra "bonus" for not getting the factory ELD.

I have seen that carrier before but I’ve never seen a ring/pinion set to go with it, or been able to confirm if the ring is not welded to the carrier like the m220 non-ELD is (so you could re-use your existing ring gear)

I suspect you might be about to find a 3.73, it’s a common ratio, but the other ratios are kinda specific.

(It also costs almost as much as an entire m210 FDU, not counting new axles)
