I believe this sound has been there the entire time and recently gotten louder/more noticeable over the general engine start noise. Always lasts about 1 second during a cold start (~1 hour between starts) and then the vehicle drives excellent. No other issues. Vehicle did some Baja stuff yesterday with no issues.

If you kill the engine and restart, its not there.

My only guess is cam phasor rattle? Is it just the fuel injection system? Sounds.. not great.

This is the 2.7.

Any guesses before I give my local Ford dealership a chance to screw something else up?

The plot thickens - I checked oil levels as I hadn't done so in about 2,500 miles and noticed it was low a quart. Tossed in a quart of 5w30 synthetic and now I can't get the sound... I'll try again in the morning and see if its temperature dependent.

No leaks, so Im now curious on being a tad low on oil.
Hello, Thomas!
Send us a private message with your VIN and the name and location of your local Ford dealer.
I’d be happy to see what I can do to assist with this rattle concern. Thanks!

Just had mine at Ford for the exact same noise for 2 days and all they could say is we need to rebuild your engine which will take up to 2 months. Is yours fixed and what did they do. Need to know before I let them tear my engine apart.

My dealership told me it is indeed the cam phaser rattling and the parts are 1-2 days out. Haven't heard anything since. Also said it was safe to drive for the time being.

It's being checked out for a few other non mechanical issues (ac 110v outlet) and it was waiting on the trim shop last I heard.

2 months?! That's insane. I'll let you know what I'm told as soon as I hear back.

Hello guys, I have the same issue and this sound has just recently gotten louder than before, do you guys know if Ford is looking into this issue? @Ford Motor Company

Regards,
My dealership had never seen it before, but had to remove the engine completely from the Bronco to fix it. First time for them.

All 4 cam phasers had to be replaced. I need to look at the paperwork to see if anything else was required.

The good news is My bronco runs better than it ever did. I'm curious if the problem was there from day 1.

How'd you get a diesel?
Best wishes with the repair turn around.

Ford changed the user manual and the 2.7L is now a diesel 🤷🏻‍♂️

My '22 w/ the 2.7 exhibited the same rattle as the video above (sounds like old-school hydraulic lifters that have bled down). The rattle started after I had it for 2 weeks & just over 1,000 miles. Oil level was fine, but I didn't know about the gas pedal trick mentioned. All said, it went to my dealer Monday. They contacted Ford & after running (unknown) diagnostics, confirmed it is the cam phasers. Parts were ordered yesterday, but given the Holiday weekend, I don't expect it back until next week.

I'll post updates when available.

Ours just started this 2 days ago. MY22, 2.7. Only 3500 miles. I know this sound all too well since my f150 had the same issue. :(. I hate going to the dealer

Curious to see if your issue has been resolved since the repair was done. Mine is doing the exact same thing in my 2.7L. My dealer has also never done the cam phaser on a Bronco, so I'll be sure to mention that they may need to take the engine out. They can't get to mine until January.

Thank you for posting and updating. Solid information. Mine has 8K on now. Such a bummer to have this with a brand new car.

Also for anyone else that wants to see/learn more about this issue and what it can do on start up.... really good video with explanation by a technician.
