The F150, Mustang and Explorer would all like to have a word with you. What great selling Ford product were you referring to that got redesigned into something useless??
How about when they turned the Explorer from a Truck into a car? The "Mustang Mach-E"? The F-150 is their halo cash cow. They won't ever mess with it. Oh, wait the Lightning.

Ford will typically do a mid-cycle refresh every 5-6 years. Generally that's a change to the interior, and exterior sheet metal, with a whole bunch of everything else staying the same.

See Ford Mustang:
Fox Body was 79-93 ; they changed the headlamps a couple times.
4th gen was 94-2004 ; major sheet metal change was 2000 or 2001
5th gen was 05-14; Major change to the rear end in 2010 to uglify it up. New engines in 2011

Whether the mid cycle refresh is good or bad is... often controversial. Take the 2010 Mustang. Mechanically it's the same as an 09, but they really beat it with the ugly stick.

On the other hand, the 2000/2001 redesign was generally lauded as a major improvement over the earlier 4th gens.

On the F-150 (see MNBigfoot's post above) the refreshes are a lot more subtle, and are mostly changes to the headlamps, grill, and dashboard.

Those are the examples you were referring too? I assume when you state they turned the Explorer from a truck to a car you a referring to when they went with a unibody design and then greatly outsold the previous years with sales steadily climbing ever since? But for the 1% that took the Explorer off-road, yes I am sure there was some great disappointment. Still the best selling SUV of all time.

As far as the Mach-E and Lightning, you are aware that the you can still buy a Mustang and F150, correct? But you many have difficulty in buying the former as demand exceeds supply. I will concede that the Lightning is useless when to comes to doing actual truck stuff as towing greatly reduces charge distance. But, most people buying the Lightning aren't doing truck stuff.

The Escape comesto mind...
The 3rd gen (and debatably the ugliest) sold incredibly. The current 4th gen gets lost in an ever growing sea of small suv's and crossovers. The problem here is that the Bronco Sport should have been the next gen Escape but Ford marketing f'd things up again.

Now I need to go take a shower after defending Ford so much in one day.

I love the styling of my 2012, guess we are going to have to agree to disagree there.

In 10 years, they'll make it look like an 80s Bronco. That's how the retro timeline works. :)

Not that I’ll be ready for another when they refresh but ann interior that doesn’t seem so cheaply made would be nice. A few more soft touch surfaces and an instrument panel that doesn’t look like an 80’s video game would be great.

Calling the E Mach a Mustang causes me rage like Mt. St. Helens erupting.

Current gen Bronco projected until 2029, so yeah I would only expect a mid model refresh around 25 or 26.

It’s going to have to change as everything is redesigned ev style. Still no idea where all them hippies are going to plug them in at. Then we’re gonna get hit with road tax for mileage every year.

Plus side, ev bronco would have the makings of a excellent crawler. Probably 600 horse and over 1000 torque (just pulling numbers out my ass here) Will be extremely manageable at low end.

I would dump mine for a proper electric bronco. But then again batteries and punctures don’t go well together. Have to see what they come up with for battery location and clearance.
4 wheel independent suspension on EV will suck for crawling.
maybe if they include portals like Bollinger

Bronco. Mustang. Escape. Explorer. Maverick. All just plastic badges on the side of a car. Who the hell cares. Either the vehicle fits your needs or it doesn't.

I think the last couple years of the Mustang have been a huge move in the right direction. I think they've given a nod back to the pony year models pre '69.

EDIT: Crusher, you think that's a bad thing ? My sweet spot for the Mustang is the pony car era. low, sleek, clean, graceful. None of the Mustangs were post '68 in my opinion.

I think Bronco will remain mostly the same until the next Gen which is reported for 2029. I do feel that the Heritage/Everglades squared off fenders will make it into the mid-cycle refresh as well as the full digital dash from the Raptor (in Lux trims) but if they want the aftermarket support Jeep has, you will have to maintain most of it for a good amount of time so that way more parts are interchangeable.
Agree. Aftermarket parts add to the desire to own and customize one.

Off the top of my head, I can think of the Escape. I had a 2005 and it was a great SUV. It's no longer an SUV. Probably the only reason they released the Bronco Sport was to recapture that market. Also the latest iterations of the Mustang are horrid, like late 70's-80's Mustangs.
