To everyone saying 'don't follow so close', that may not work in a major urban area. Traffic can be heavy so you can't keep a big distance to the next vehicle (somebody will just move into it), plus as others have noted trucks are in the next lane over and you're forced to go past them because of the way traffic is going. I had plenty of dings and a few cracks on windshields during my years in the S.F. Bay Area (including one just a month after getting a windshield replaced), yet I tend to keep a longer following distance than most people.

I'll definitely be getting both a wind deflector and protective film ASAP when my Bronco comes in a couple of months from now, even though I'm now in a smaller metro with less intense traffic.

Personally, I’m more upset about all the bugs that feel my windshield is the place they feel they have to commit suicide. Obviously, the OP doesn’t drive at night. The bugs don’t make long streaks, just deep spots where their butt hole penetrates their brain. Rocks aren’t any smarter and are harder.
The bugs don't even have the guts to come back and try again! Their friends dive in instead to meet the same fate. Buggers!

i read somewhere that a cracked windshield renders the bronco practically useless, for example
- Eco mode is permanently enabled
- ASS is on forever
- 1 wheel drive
- A manual turns into an automatic
- a 2dr turns into a 4dr
- all radio stations play "never gonna give you up"

to name a few... someone help me with the rest I forget.

I should have taken all of the reports regarding the cheap ass windshields Ford uses for the Bronco seriously. My Big Bend has 2 major cracks from debris while driving on highway home. What a waste of money this purchase was. Less than 5,000 miles. My advise, DO NOT buy a Bronco unless you own a glass company.

It has nothing to do with cheap. Like Jeeps and other vehicles with a vertical windshield it is more prone than a raked windshield for obvious reasons (trigonometry 101). The solution is simple, don't follow so close. Not only will you be safer, you will greatly reduce windshield cracks as well as dings and dents in your paint. My Bronco is almost 4 years old and has never had a damaged windshield.

No issues here at 14k miles. The wife caught a rock on her last two Mercedes within a few months. The 2nd one was driving home from the dealership after purchasing ! Told her to stop tailgating and no issues in the 2 years since.
BINGO! Not following so close will solve 95% of windshield damage.

Stop following people closely. Stop riding next to or behind tractor trailers or any trailer. It’s an upright flat windshield, things happen. Got a star on mine the second week but fixed it with the rain x windshield repair kit. Still good a year later
I was on open highway thru the desert . Ford was being cheap.

It was driving thru the desert on a US highway with no other traffic and the wind blew some small debris and it hit my windshield. My previous Jeep windshield never cracked. Ford can do better for the price you pay.!

I'm considering Xpel Windshield Protection Film for my Bronco. I've never used windshield films before but given all the gravel they use up here in the winter, it's one of those things that may pay for itself if it enables me to go a few years without cracks.

Sorry this happened to you.

I’m not sure what I’d do if that happened to my BBR.

Hope it gets fixed.

If Ford is so cheap stop complaining and go be an engineer for them!
Maybe you should redesign the whole Bronco that’ll fix it

Quite honestly I see more Jeeps on the road with broken windshields than Broncos. A ton of them being JLs. Completely baseless “Ford is cheap” argument lol

This isn’t just a Bronco thing like everybody else has been saying. It’s simple, flat glass + speed + hard object = likely to crack

60,000 miles here, not even a rock chip. Original windshield. Just need to keep your distance from the car in front of you. Don't ride behind semi trucks. Ya know, logical stuff you'd expect any driver to think of.

Truth. I'm honestly not sure how many windshields I went through between my two JKs. I do recall that aftermarket units were more durable though.

I don't think I ever had a broken one with either of my TJs. The JL has yet to claim one either after two years, knock on wood.

Welcome to Physics 101. It's not about cheap glass, it's about the very upright windshield. Ask Jeep owners about rock chips and cracks. And in some states like mine, the rock chips and cracks are inevitable. No vehicle I owned prior to living in this state ever had a single windshield crack. Every...single...vehicle I've owned across at least 5 different brands has had a cracked windshield. Yes, it sucks. If it's not within your line of sight, live with it as long as you can.
