Since those of us driving manuals use the parking brake every single time we park, i wonder if the extra use (compared to autos) is causing malfunction on the parking brake motors. Even if the parking BRAKE light wasn't lit on the dash, did you try pushing the parking brake button inward to see if it disengaged? Or dirt/mud got into the pistons on one of the brake and made it stay engaged? But with it in crawl gear, it should of been able to push through a sticky piston. So that's why I'm leaning towards the parking brake engaging.

I think its worth jacking up your car next time it happens to see which wheel you can and cant spin. Front wheels locking up will tell us something different. One rear vs both rears locking up also tells us something different.
Good suggestion. Trying the parking brake was one of the first things I tried. The light illuminated and disappeared each time to activated the trigger but missing was the audible electronic whirl noise. Not knowing the mechanics of the system I'm not sure if it was because the break system was already at full pressure or if it is a solenoid that actually pulls and released tension on an actual cable. If it's the latter, and i dodnt hear that noise, that may be the issue.

How did they get it on the flatbed? Did the wheels turn?

Faulty ABS module. Ask 2009-2010 VW EOS owners about ABS module recall.

it automatically sets for hill hold if you are on any kind of incline...whether you want it or not.
Is this accurate? My driveway (where I often park the Bronco) is a pretty extreme hill and I've not noticed this in the 8 months I've owned it.

No, the parking brake is not used for hill hold. That is the regular brakes being used for hill hold. Hill hold engages when you are moving and come to a complete stop on an incline. It will not trigger if you were not moving before applying the brakes.

I’m pretty sure cars are a LOT more reliable than they were 20 or 30 years ago. Don’t you?

Speaking from an industrial reliability standpoint, there is NO argument regarding the improved system reliability!
I don't see anything in the past 20 years that convince my they are more reliable. Two of the three turn of the century era vehicles I had are still daily drivers, the third got two kids thru college and it was body damage from accidents that led to that one being sold.

Electronics reliability just doesn't seem as good as it used to be. In part because of complexity, in part more fragile small parts, in part RoHS pure tin solder being more subject to fracture/tin whiskers. I think this new hardware needs to prove itself.
