Ok, I might get some flack for this, but: I'm looking at picking up a '25 Bronco Outer Banks, but am concerned with MPG.
I would likely get a higher end intake system (Roush or K&N), look into weight-saving parts I can swap out, and drive in Eco Mode as much as possible with a light foot.

Has anyone else tried improving their Bronco's MPG, and if so, what were your results? I've love to be able to get around 25 MPG, but I have a feeling that's not possible.

Thanks!!

Then don't buy a heavy, 4WD vehicle with the aerodynamics of a brick on top of a cinder block and large, heavy tires designed for grip on loose surfaces.

All the stupid intakes and other crap will gain you nothing.

I‘ve gotten 22mpg max by driving it easy and putting it in ECO mode every time I drive.

I don’t believe 25 MPG is attainable.

perhaps you should be thinking about why you want a Bronco and what alternatives exist that would scratch that itch while providing the MPG you desire. Have you considered EVs such as the Rivian or maybe an upcoming Scout?

I would be surprised if there was much gain to be had--since I think the limiting factors are aerodynamics ( it is a refrigerator box on wheels), large high rolling resistance tires, low gears, inefficient drive train, and relatively heavy for size. The same motor in other ford vehicles gets 30+ highway mpg so that should tell you something. Running ethanol free fuel is the only thing I have found that will consistently raise your mpg.

Aah, the flack I knew I'd get started quickly!

My work requires the ability to have a good amount of enclosed cargo space (I wouldn't want my expensive video gear in the back of a pickup, for example), and I love the style and personality of the Bronco. Since Ford has yet to come out with a hybrid offering, and with my current '11 Ford Escape Hybrid showing signs of kicking the bucket, my ideal next vehicle is a Bronco.

I'm just hoping there are things that can be done to get better MPG, that's all.

Aah, that's helpful -- thanks!
I haven't seen anyone talk about that yet, so that's great. =)

Yeah, I have a feeling I was too ambitious with that number.

It was between a Bronco and the Wrangler 4xe, but I keep hearing bad things about Jeep's quality as of late, and poor reviews of Wranglers in general from people who've owned them for years.

I'm wary of an EV (range anxiety), which is why I've been considering hybrids. But that Scout does look cool! Not sure if I'd be able to keep my Escape Hybrid chugging along until it's released, though.

Awesome response, thank you! And great tip on the ethanol free fuel -- I hadn't thought of that!

Stay out of the turbo.

Put smaller tires on it.

That's it, and it's. not going to amount to much.

Perhaps the Bronco Sport or Toyota Land Cruiser might be more your speed?

25mpg might be pushing. One thing that's not discussed enough is the tire air pressure. I believe Ford recommends 39 PSI and if you keep it around there +/- a couple you'll see better mpgs

I average 20 mpg with my 2.7 2 door BaseSquatch after 4k miles.
Got 22 mpg on a highway trip keeping it at 65 mph.

It mostly depends on your driving style and the roads you are driving on. Short errands, stop and go, 18-ish. 30 min drives in semi-rural areas at 45-55 I can get 20-22. Hills kill mpg too.

What kind of driving do you usually do? If it's a lot of around town stop and go, then you'll never get 20 mpg with it. If it's open road in the 45-60 mph speed limit range then it's possible to get 21-23 mpg. Getting rid of the stock muffler with either an axleback or catback exhaust will help some.
