Ambient Air Temp Sensor poor performance

I've been seeing people having issues with the ambient air temp sensor being sporadic but mine seems to get stuck during summer off-roading trips. During todays trip it was easily in the 80s but the cluster was showing 95 degrees F. When it does this the truck seems to fall flat on its face when accelerating. I've seen this happen with other brands. So I'm wondering if I'm right to assume that this is the part that is acting up. I haven't had a CEL light pop up for this. Shutting it down and letting it cool down seems to snap it back to normal. (22 2.3 Sas Manual)

I’ve had mine get stuck off roading before too. Getting out at highway speed seems to fix it.

There is an input from the speedometer for outside air temp calculation - if you can believe it.

4. Ambient Air Temperature (AAT) Filtering Strategy
For the external dashboard temperature display, the Bronco uses a separate logic loop for its side-mirror-mounted AAT sensor: [1, 2]

• • Engine Off > 4 Hours: The PCM immediately displays the true unfiltered sensor reading upon startup.
  • Engine Off < 4 Hours: If the engine is still warm, the PCM locks the display to the last known driving temperature to prevent engine bay heat from artificially skewing the dashboard display. It will not update or rise until the vehicle crosses 21 mph (33 km/h) for more than 90 seconds. [1, 2]
