After using a lot of traction control (AdvanceTrac) off hooning around the Anza Borrego Desert yesterday, I've lost the ability to reliably turn it off (and on). Observations:
  • Sometimes it will turn off after holding the button many times. Otherwise it's like the button is simply disconnected.
  • Often a quick click followed by a press&hold can work to get AT off (of course factory correct behavior is just click and hold).
  • Baja Mode reliably disables AdvanceTrac. Curiously, I can press the AT button while in Baja Mode and it says it's turned it on but the disabled icon remains illuminated. I suspect this is normal behavior and probably unrelated to the problem.
  • No faults listed from my HPTuners dongle.
  • Have had 2 recent brake related warnings pop up on my dash but they immediately went away and no brake functionality seems to have been affected.
  • Brake pads and tires very worn but not into either indicators.
  • And of course I was at about 18 psi for most of my trip, but back at street pressure now. Tire deflation has never caused this or anything related prior.
  • Unplugging the battery for 15 minutes partially reset the UI (as it normally does) but didn't fix this issue.
  • Rebooting ABS and BdyCM modules via FORScan didn't resolve.
Anything else I should try before getting bent over for electrical gremlins by a dealer?

My 650 crank hp tune with largely completely worn out tire along fast, loose Desert washes was so fun...

I don't really have anything other than weird electrical crap is usually a sign the battery is dying. Even if the Bronco is running and has the alternator supporting it.

Thanks, not a bad guess. 3 years, 50k mi and in a very moderate climate seems a bit short lived.

Resting is 12.6 V and cranking drops to about 10.5 V. I can check more in FORScan, but these quickies seem to indicate it's OK.

I like the battery suggestion or spend big $ and go to ford.

that is about it for modern batteries. I’d replace it anyway before you find yourself stranded.
in my recent experience I’ve had batteries only a few years old which test fine, then a day or so later useless.
