Strong low speed tap on D/S front tire by a T-Bone driver. (Hit/run). Snapped tie rod joint off the steering knuckle. I need to look closer in the morning, but maybe this is just rebuild the Icon tie rod ball joint and re-align?

That would be nice if it’s the only damage. I hope it is.
Sucks about the hit/run jerkoff.

Are those the Walker Evan links? If so how are you linking them over the factory link?

Rebuild the tie rod end would certainly be the easiest solution. Hopefully didn't tweak anything in the rack.

replace end link, check alignment as stated above, but that's the absolute starting point to see if anything else on the rack is bonked.

I'd bet you're fine

From my recent experience there's little reason for anyone to not hit and run. Once they are gone it's mostly "he said she said" for a fender bender, assuming the police will even bother investigating. Hope you have an easy repair.

While you're likely fine rebuilding the tie rod, that's got to have stressed the knuckle and steering rack as well, if you're making an insurance claim, I'd get everything checked carefully..

So sorry that happened to you. I know for peace of mind if i could replace the tie rod on that side i would do that. If its extremely costly i can see the reasoning but every time i get a vibration, pop, crack , noise or anything coming from that side i would be second guessing myself. The OCD is strong in this one lol.

Glad that was your weak link and that broke before more damage was had. Hoping for your sake thats it. Good luck with the repairs!

Mechanical fuse doing its job. Hopefully the ball joint sheared before any more damage was done.

Except it was an Icon Tie Rod, which is supposed to be much stronger than stock, So I'm not sure how much of a fuse that really is.

It mainly gets that strength from the rod diameter though, and the accident sheared it at the ball, so it may well have been the weak link.

I'd still be worried about the steering rack and knuckle, it had to be a pretty good hit to break the ball.

Yeah thanks -looked closer at it and the spindle snapped, I’ll pop it out, get a new end to put on, remember my turns, and connect it up, align. This kind of tap I’m hoping the CV wasn’t jacked, much worse happens on the trail.

Yeah I'm thinking of getting one, although I did get photos of the driver's vehicle and plates (no video or cam was going to see inside the tinted windows). Problem is the accident report doesn't say who was at fault because no cop was called to the scene to interview both parties and make an assessment. That's why running works for these people. Maybe a good video could help get things moving, but I think you'd still have an uphill battle to get "legal" justice. At least in a major metro area where a fender bender is small potatoes.

The way to go about it isn't to try to go to the police. The police, as you've noted, aren't going to do squat. They are gunna say "civil matter", and they aren't entirely wrong in that. There is often both a criminal and civil matter in an accident.

So, you file a claim with your own insurance company, and you take your video evidence to them, who will pursue the civil matter (getting your vehicle fixed) for you. You've already paid them to do this for you.

If the accident is not your fault, your insurance company will identify the other vehicle (from your video) and go after the insurance company that insures that vehicle (assuming there is one). If you have collision coverage, they will fix your vehicle, and if they can they will recover their losses AND your losses (deductible, etc.) from that company for you.

Still an uphill battle, and by no means are you guaranteed, but less of an uphill than hoping the police do something (which they definitely won't).

If you have video evidence that identifies the hit and run party, that will make the police much more likely to actually do something about the criminal matter (the hit and run and possibly other crimes that caused the accident).

Hmm... I always thought in a hit and run the runner was presumed at fault, since they ran.
