Just finished the install. It's hard to explain how it feels instead of the plastic one. Kind of like a metal knob on a high end stereo compared to a plastic one on an Amazon no-name.

I hate to admit it, but I fidget with the lockout a bit while driving/sitting in traffic. Not enought to choose R or C, but just enought to shorten the life of the spring by about half. It's the small details that change everything and this is a nice piece.

Switched back to the OEM plastic while I decide what to do about the anodizing. Now that I know what it could be, it's a sad switch back.

The next batch will be better for the anodizing.
I just recieved mine. The machining looks fine but the anodizing……not so much. I’m not sure what happened. I can see where it was racked at the anodizing house on the small lower ID so it is not a racking mark. It can be made less noticeable with a good permanent marker, but that isn’t a great long term solution. I did verify it fits well in the OEM shift knob.

I thought the anodizing was fine. I like the way it shimmers. More than happy with it and service. Would buy again

, what do you think about taking some oven cleaner to it?

Edit.
I wouldn't use oven cleaner. I'd worry the chemicals would stain the aluminum. I'd probably use a metal polish or high grit sandpaper

Mine is just the area on the edge as shown in the pictures above. The rest looks like normal anodizing. It’s pretty odd. I’ve been doing this a long time and while I’ve seen some anodizing issues, never like this. Sounds like is might be spotty and not every part.

Mine has the same edge(like a thinning, or almost scratch) but I am not bothered by it at all.

I also love this look though

If you are looking to remove the anodized finish, your best bet would find a shop that would chuck it up in a lathe and then use some 400 grit paper the remove it from the sections visible. I might do this with mine but not sure yet. It’s always an option for me as I have access to a lathe.

I’ve been designing and manufacturing aluminum parts for 5 decades. It’s not completely uncommon to receive a part or two with a small blemish out of a batch. Normally caused by something on the surface that didn’t allow it to anodize. If it wasn’t on a customer facing surface, we would touch it up with a black permanent marker. Since this goes around the complete edge, it’s a bit odd. I was able to hide it but not sure how permanent it will be given it’s at a touch point.

Mine shipped today.

I didn't really want it anodized, but I can fix that if I really want to.
Should be an easy fix either way. Perhaps even adding just a small raw aluminum ring all around in that area. It’s nice to have options!

I'm thinking it would look nice in electroless nickel.
The only issue with electroless nickel is it tends to magnify any surface anomalies. Being a turned part, this shouldn’t be an issue but just be aware.

I know based on previous posts you are aware. Not everyone on the forum is though. So just putting it out there.

same thing here - happy with the piece, the anodizing is meh. Same odd marks on the edge

I'm completely satisfied with what I received. Fits perfect, installation was a breeze, and I didn't notice any imperfections. Heck, once installed you can't see most of it anyway.

/just noticed that, while my whole truck is a dusty mess, that shifter knob is shiny enough to reflect my goofy self clear as day
