So I made an interesting discovery about the Bronco modes when doing performance runs. As it turns out, my Bronco feels faster in "Normal" mode. Faster than sport mode. I put this to the test and did two back to back runs, on the same stretch of road. I also launched them at the same RPM (2.6K RPM) Sport mode not only didn't feel as fast, but there was also more wheel hop. Here's the numbers below to prove it.

The left screenshot is in Sport mode and the right is normal.

As mentioned, even around town driving feels faster in normal mode. I suspect it has to do with how the RaceChip set to level 5 interacts with sport mode while also allowing for a more aggressive launch. In normal mode, I don't get any or much wheel hop. She hooks and goes. Wondering if I could have shaved off a tenth or so off my time...this whole time :)
Running back to back brings in IC heat soak trending. Which is fine if it's at the same temp for every run. IAT temps would be a good indicator of the consistency of soak you're dealing with. The Sport mode variance is interesting. It'll be a great piece of info once you figure it out. Good stuff. I love that there are folks like yourself out there doing diligent testing to make it easier for armchair people like me (y)

New 3" CV Fabrications catback exhaust installed. I'm digging it thus far. Has a deep tone that's not annoying and doesn't have any drone. Bronco also feels like it has more HP/TQ and gets up to speed faster during normal acceleration. Sounds good at WOT :) I'm impressed

Cool exhaust sounds recorded or it did not happen :)
Thats a nice-looking exhaust. However I am a bit worried about its exit angle. Seems it could be tucked up a bit higher? Or is that the angle of the pic?

I'll post a short clip soon, but I plan to do a full review with sounds clips. That should be coming next week or so.

Departure angle is a concern, no doubt. I don't think I'd try the same obstacles with this exhaust, but I could get some back by taking off the tips when I go off-road.

You have a point, but this was with the CVF IC and it doesn't get heat soaked like the stock one. Especially not after two short runs. The RaceChip is the reason why the Bronco is faster in normal mode. I can't tell you why, but it definitely strange. The Pulsar XT doesn't have that problem. Feels better all around in sport mode.

Bigger just takes longer to soak but it's worth the money. Best thing about the IC on my MINI was I could just lay a cloth bag full of ice on it after an autocross run. Went high tech later and used a garden pump sprayer. On myself on hot days (y)

Don't boosted engines tend to run rich as a cooling factor? That doesn't look absurdly rich. Keep up the good work. I'm learning a bunch.
Direct injection changed the whole game with Turbo engines and tuning.

MWILD I'm still on a parallel path to you. And the CVF is definitley the way to go, after running stock and trying the Whipple on. To pair with my installed CVF intercooler, I will try to get my aFe Power hot/cold pipes on before my next run, but their fittings don’t match the CVF well (buyer beware, a whole separate subject I am talking to the "OEM-compatible” manufacturers about and just getting finger pointing). But that and later the Injen intake piping will be the last breathing mods I can force on this rig, it already screams on the street and growls up the trails.

Once we get another cold weather snap, I’ll do a run again and record my 5s or less run (0-60 mph); I will not be chasing towards 4 seconds like you though!

My overall build is here, with some mods since this was posted:
https://www.bronco6g.com/forum/threads/build-progress-2023-wildtrak-in-texas.88651/

Meantime, while watching you and others posting, and doing/tweaking my own upgrades, here is my drag plan for that day:
  • Cooler day (low 50s)
  • 93 octane, less than half tank of gas
  • JB4 Map 2, V+1 pedal setting
  • Pedal Commander Sport+ setting
  • 4WH, Traction control off, rear diff locked, Normal GOAT mode
  • Non-essential gear out of truck but spare left on
  • 40 psi in tires
  • Launch in M2 @ 2500 rpm
  • Standard Dragy box to record it.
Any easy ones I am missing?

Awesome build!

A couple things worth mentioning.

I’d use Sport mode over normal GOAT mode.
I was going to say lower tire pressure to 35, but you won’t have traction issues if you’re not using the ProCal tune. In fact, you can launch at closer to 3K RPM and not have problems with traction. You shouldn’t need to use the rear locker either. Again, make sure you’re in manual mode (2nd gear) and then throw it into drive after launch. I’ve seen people just select gear 2 in drive and that won’t work.

Also, if you’re not getting the numbers you want. The JB4 can make more power on Map 4/5 with E30 in the tank. Just remember to increase your boost safety up a few PSI in the JB4 app if you’re not seeing any additional gains. I think the default is 21 or so. It’s been a hot minute since I’ve used the JB4. Mine would run into safeties too much which was annoying.

Not yet, but that will come in the future along with their upcoming charge pipes. Other than that, there’s not much else to do other than tune, CRP Turbos and built 10R60. Not sure how far I want to go.

I did CVF downpipes and the magnaflow catback system. If you go to downpipes you’ll need to plan for addressing the rasp when the turbos spool up and you’re on the throttle heading up from 3k.

I had a lot of rasp. I added another straight through magnaflow resonator in the middle to tame it some, but it’s still there. I probably should have used the longer one - we cover it some in the CVF downpipes thread on here.

What is your $ total spent to achieve sub-5?
You must mean the other folks like MWILD. I’ve not done any 0-60 timing on ol gluestick - she’s got a lot of extra weight with prerunner bar, a silly number of lights, Trailrax roof rack and pak rax, roam mounts, AAL STP and shelf, recovery boards etc. my pursuit of performance and interest in this thread is learning what folks are getting improvements from, to keep gluestick reasonably sporty and energetic so it doesn’t feel like a barge.

Correct, I hit the wrong reply. It was meant for MWILD. Thanks.

  • Ford Performance ProCal Tune $575 (Old stock)
  • RaceChip S $219 (On sale)
  • CV Fabrication Intercooler $599
  • Injen Evolution Cold Air Intake System - EVO9301 $270 (used)
  • Turbosmart Kompact EM VR19 Dual port BOV $150 (Used)
  • NGK 95605 plugs gapped to .028 $90 pre-gapped
  • And E30 mix of fuel
Under 2K

You can get close with 93 octane, but the Pulsar XT would need to be swapped with the RaceChip S. Or perhaps go for the RaceChip GTS for under $500
