I wondered if it crapped out if I could tear it down and rip out the electronics to "see" how it works. Get the new one bypass the electronics that "talk" to the truck use the stock switch bypassed and just run it at every speed every mode if my little hear desires.

This may work is if you find a way to make the chassis control module think the sensors and solenoids in the swaybar disconnect are still there and operating within normal strategy.
Not sure what that would take though.

People have tried it, but nobody has got it to work.
Maybe if you changed the As-built data on a bunch of different modules to a Wildtrak (or any other model without the chassis control module) it could potentially work.

But there’s multiple modules looking for information the chassis control module is sending out. Miss a single one and it will set a fault likely disabling the whole system.
That is what I am concerned about. All the modules make it too complicated.

The electric disconnect was one of the main features that attracted me to the Badlands. I didn't find out until too late that it reconnects at 20 mph. For the most part that is okay but I like the sway bar disconnected in washboard. That is usually run at more than 20 mph.

When you buy your rig, even used, check to see if the previous owner used the credit or not.
If they didn't & it's still within the time frame, you can use the credit.
Wow, that's great to know, thanks!

Appreciate all the responses from everyone. Great information here!

Time to do a little research on after market sway bar disconnects before deciding. ( of course the predictable reality for me is the obx will sell during that time..... ha).

The most capable bronco I’ve wheeled with is an OBX. Just sayin. (His on the right)

With the clearance on that thing, does he even have to turn or does he just drive straight on every trail

Looking to purchase a two door Bronco, pretty much exclusively to use off road, trails, etc., especially in the Southwest/Utah. Not planned to be a daily driver.

Was pretty much decided on a Badlands, but recently came across an Outer Banks with SAS, High, Lux for a pretty good deal.

Wondering how much I will regret not having the electronic stab disconnect...... This is my first foray into off-roading, I have never done any before and not sure how much it would be used.

For those that have that feature and off-road, how much do you find yourself actually using it?

Thanks
I have a badlands and frankly its the first vehicle I have ever owned thats had this option. Frankly, alot of people offroad just fine without them but those if us that have the button use it often. I dont think youd be poorly served with a cheaper manual option that you just pull a pin or the shock type that you just deflate when your going offroad. Is it a gamechanger? depends on what your doing. You can buy the part as well aftermarket and install it if your REALLY handy

Sometimes straight is indeed an option for him but not for us

For those thinking about adding the OEM stabar disconnect: there are two solenoids that are energized to enable the disconnect - those should be wired in series (not in parallel) to the aux switch circuit used.

All the time - this plus airing down really smooths out what passes for forest roads around here.

Occasionally comes in handy for more articulation.
This is practically necessary equipment for the last 10 miles to Sheeps Bridge!

I am a little more conflicted on the obx. Just realized it does not come with skid plates as the badlands does. One more thing that needs to be researched/purchased/installed in addition to a potential disconnect sway bar. Not as big a deal, but also no rock crawl mode. Not sure how useful that is tho.

If you use the goat modes rock crawl does a good enough job. The modes seem to change shift strategy as well. One word of caution, when crawling, look out for the rev match downshift. It crawls in 2nd until it decides it needs compound low. It then insanely revs the motor and shifts once RPM match is achieved. Usually equals a launch at the most inopportune time. This is not the goat mode but rather a Bronco thing in 4LO.
