To secure the spare, I plan to use a SpeedStrap 2" 3-point tie down with swivel hooks. The swivel hooks will be anchored through the tray. I know the 2" strap is a bit overkill and I can use 1.5", but I like to over build when it comes to safety inside the bronco.
And they took the Pinto off the market for being a rolling bomb. At least it had a bumper behind the gas tank. I can't help but thinking somewhere there is a off road use only warning.

Nice, you made your own setup. Thank you for sharing. I am happy to find a delete plate that may work for me.

I would like to use the 3 gallon rotopax as you suggest, but I already have the 2 gallon fuel and a 2 gallon water ones. I will be mounting 4, 2 gallon rotopax. I'll be able to pack 6 gallons of fuel and 2 gallons of water with this setup or 8 gallons of fuel. I do like the 3 gallon ones you have much better.
Yeah 3 gallon is almost too much hassle. Less containers to fill and empty is key. I will say the 3 gallon jug is the perfect size for hauling (great form factor). It would be nice to have a 10-15 gallon auxiliary tank built in at some point.

Bronci (2dr) manual averages 20mpg on the 37s which yields over 300 miles on the stock tank. Add the 6 gallon Rotopax for 400+ miles. Getting over 400 miles is a minimum for us.

Our Super Duty has a 21 gallon auxiliary tank and can travel 550 miles off road with the Truck Camper. Range is crucial.

We will add the same design for the Raptor. It has been in the 17-20 mpg range. 360-400 mile range. Add 6 gallons it will be 460-500 miles.

Both the Broncos are running Method wheels w/ skinny 37s. Nitto Recon 37x11.5R17 - Load D - 3 ply sidewall. Perfect tire size for these Broncos. Definitely good for range. Fun fact it has the exact same tread width as the SAS Goodyear tires.

I would do this but hate the square in the middle, would be cool if someone offered a steel unit new tailgate with old style FORD logo offset to one side, then you could paint to match your color

I appreciate your warning and I hear you, but I am not worried as the bronco is much higher. I have not seen anyone hit the tailgate that high yet. Of course there are big trucks and vans that can.

Both my '65 Mustang fastback and '67 Camero have the same rear gas fillers and they were never taken off the market. The Pino was actually taken off the market by competitors who quietly paid $$$$ and "proved them to be unsafe". They could have done the same with the mustang, camero, malibu, etc, but they did not. Most people don't know that part and just think they were rolling bombs. I lived through that and I remember it well.

I fully agree with this. I cannot remember which SEMA show it was but I saved a picture of a Bronco that had a full replacement tailgate or tailgate cover. It was on the Quick Time Performance Bronco. This is what I want.

I've installed the spare delete panel that I posted earlier and I am very happy with the results. I don't have any more rattles and I still have spare fuel. I do not take pics when I install parts, but I have a few "after pics" to share.

The thickness of the metal was good and the powder coating was nice. It's actually a little heavier than I thought it would be which is good. I will see how it holds up to the salty fog.

I am also happy to say that I was able to keep the hammer built reinforcement tailgate panel and I was able to install a rotopax mount. The mount is only held on by three bolts for the momement (testing) as there weren't holes for the four bolt pattern and I did not want to drill anything yet.. I also installed one of the little traction boards that came with it.

The rear camera has a little blockage from the rotopax and spare pouch in the middle but it is not that bad. I can live with it. The camera views show the bag and rotopax slightly. Happily the sensors still work and they are not an issue.

I had the DV8 delete kit on my last Bronco. The look and quality of the kit was excellent. Instructions were clear. The problem I ran into was overpressure inside the cabin. The spare delete effectively seals off the louvers with the rubber flaps in the tailgate that helps air to escape the cabin. I was getting a whistling noise from the door seals. I spent a lot of time and effort to make the windows seal better with modest improvements. The whistling was unbearable in windy and cold conditions. I'm a skier and I travel to UP Michigan, Utah, and Wyoming in winter. I had to drill the rivets off the aluminum DV8 plate and drill breather holes to allow more air to escape. That solved the issue. I ended up trading her in for a newer one. I'm considering the Turn Off Road delete kit because it has breather holes stamped into it. I tow an InTech square drop trailer and I have mountain bikes on a hitch rack. I dislike using hitch extenders. I also like the 80lb reduction in weight as my tongue weight is pushing max.

hmm, interesting. I was planning to have my paint guy flush out my tailgate but figured the flaps would only be a concern when shutting door, not during driving.
