Has been looking forward to this. When I was growing up in China as a kid, my dad’s 99 2nd Gen Pajero was the family car and it kick started my love for offroader / 4x4s.
Even now, the Pajero EVO remain my top 3 dream car.

Pretty much what I expected for Mitsubishi 2026, they played it more safe rather than taking a gamble for something that’s more rugged and “purpose built”

It is a step in the right direction for the struggling Mitsubishi, I’m sure it will sell well as a LC300 competitor in the global market.

I’m excited to see what they have to offer for NA market in the near future (Triton coming?)

Yea the 1st & 2nd gen (up to 99 I think) had a road going version of Pajero EVO that won Dakar. But after 2003 I think, the 7 straight Dakar win Pajero EVO are purpose built tube chassis trophy truck that doesn’t relate to the road going version other than in name.

BUT. The important thing is for the first 4 gen, even the late 2000s ones. Has that look and that DNA where I can’t envision this 5th gen Pajero to participate in an event like that at all.

I could also be very wrong seeing that the JDM Land Cruiser 300 and Patrol (Armada in US) participated in this past years Dakar. And this seems to be a direct competitor to that class of, 3 row, family hauler / tower, off-road capable cars.
Which is still very cool, just not really what I had in mind for a Pajero. Hopefully a Pajero sport in the future will take that short wheel base, more nimble slot

Upon further research I’ve made a mistake, the current Triton only has a i4 turbo diesel but they historically offers with i4 petrol option.

With the rumored Mitsubishi truck (joint development with the upcoming Nissan X Terra)entering NA market at the end of the decade (likely a triton or a variant), I won’t be surprise if they also put a Nissan V6 petrol in the Pajero for the NA market

This is really disappointing. I seriously had to think if Mitsubishi was part of the Hyundai/Kia family.
I can imagine how the Design Team meeting went:
"We can either go the Defender route - or the Palisade/Telluride route. Who's in favor of the Defender? (...crickets...) Who's in favor of the Palisade? (every hand goes up)"
Alrighty then.

I had a 1989 2-door Montero back in the day... in the form of a "Dodge Raider". Had two of them in fact (V6 stick & V6 auto). I parked last year next to it (saw it at an Ace HW). My 2-door Bronco looked massive next to it. I had that Montero for 17 years and loved it!

Its too bad that car companies always think bigger is better. This Mitsu is an example of just that!

A 2-door Samurai would be an interesting vehicle... even if supersized 20% from the originals... as they were so small.
