If they have to have less rolling resistance, then they will be made with less material, and not last as long.

Lower rolling resistance tires actually tend to be stiffer, so have a bit more material. They cost more.

That being said, not once in my life have I ever replaced factory tires with the same garbage rubber Ford installs.

I get your point. I agree the smog laws were good. I remember not being able to see the San Gabriel Mountains from the pier in Long Beach because of the smog.

But there are times when CA seems to lose a sense of perspective. I'm thinking about Proposition 65 and how it's enforced. At first it was a "lawyer enrichment act" then it was modified. But Prop 65 warnings have become a joke in many situations.

Cheaper to label it than face the penalty if someone spilled something nasty on it.
The fines are something like 2500 per violation per day.
I don't know if anyone has ben fined for not having the label.

Exactly, there is no penalty for putting the label on something that doesn't have carcinogens. But there are heavy penalties for not having a label. So you'll see labels on things that are safe just to avoid litigation.

The thing is, someone doesn't have to prove injury to sue. In general they just have to prove the existence of a listed carcinogen and they weren't notified. And there is no threshold. If the substance is detectable, you can sue. That's why you'll see the labels on leather wallets because leather dust is listed, wood dust is also listed, hence you'll see the label on piles of lumber.

I think, in general, the concept of notifying people is good. But there is no sense of perspective and it's scaring people unnecessarily. I've seen posts about people avoiding garden hoses because they have brass fittings with labels. Standard brass is copper and zinc, with a small percentage of lead. Federal Limits allow 0.25% lead, but CA has lead listed.

Prop 65 is poor law, though it's intent was good. Usually if the company actually knows there is a carcinogen in their product, they will list it allowing you to discern between the CYA labels and more meaningful labels. Prop 65 helped me discover I was spraying formaldehyde all over myself (and breathing it). Also: fuck you Chemical Guys.

Blazer runs premium
Stroppe could run premium.
Tractor and kubota sxs are diesel.
5.29 91 octane. Same for diesel.
No 93 available.

That is not what the commission said.

Just to correct the facts, the CEC $79 savings estimate is a NET savings that includes the added cost of tire. However, that $79 savings is realized over the 4-year life of the tire, not per year, and the tire industry strongly disagrees with the small price increase that the CEC used.

This is clearly an initiative to reduce total energy consumption and pollution, a good goal especially in urban areas, but I think it’s a mistake to try to sell it as a cost savings for consumers.

News Flash....EVERYTHING is carcinogenic (or out right fatal) with enough exposure.
