UGH! MIC Top cracking

Once the MIC tops have been around a few years and warranties are not covering them any longer the delamination will open up the core to water. Leaks will be inevitable because these tops are fabricated from corrugated cardboard and you know what happens to cardboard once it gets wet.

I would not consider honeycomb aramid paper "corrugated cardboard". It's much more rigid, and water resistant. I'm guessing even a cracked top will go many many years without any kind of degradation due to weather.

That was my feeling, it's used heavily in the aeronautical world

Yeah, it will be really interesting to see how these cracked tops hold up over the years. I'm guessing the concern is way overblown.

Is it possible to replace the MIC tops with the painted tops? My BL is being built in a few weeks and its too late to change the order.

As long as it is not built yet, I would think Ford should be able to tweak the order.

I would even ask your dealer if the order tweak is not possible if they could just re-order you a new one because you don't want the MIC top because you've learned about all of the issues with it. Issues that continue into 2025.

That was interesting, kind of puts to rest the common “wet cardboard” comments I read here about what these MIC tops are made of. Reading the applications and properties of aramid it seems Ford really did try to make something good but the manufacturer just couldn’t pull off correctly…or at least consistently.

No it is not coloured through and through. Coating is just on the top.
