I just completed my first oil change. I drained and added 6 qts (plus replaced filter). I discovered the hard way that I definitely drained more than 6 qts from the vehicle when I accidentally overflowed both oil containers putting the old oil in. I just want to confirm that 6 QTs is the correct amount of oil for a 2024 2.3L. Based on the dipstick, it doesn’t seem to be running low.

Assuming 6 QTs is the right amount, does that just mean the dealership put too much in when they did an oil change before I purchased it?

I believe it's 6.2 with a filter change.

Hold on. The 2.7 is supposed to officially be 6 qts now. I would expect the 2.3 to be less, not more.

OP, do you know that an oil change was done before purchase? Because the factory overfilled on my ‘25 2.7 by quite a bit.

Yes, I know they did one right before purchase. I bought it last summer new, but it had 700 miles due to being a courtesy vehicle. Part of the sale was them doing an oil change. It’s a 2024. It wouldn’t surprise me if the 2025 had a different capacity since it’s an entirely different engine starting with that year.

2021-2024 Bronco with the 2.3L is 6 quarts.

Other Ford vehicles with the same 2.3L engine may or may not be 6 quarts depending on the model/year. For example... Explorers had a different oil capacity than Bronco despite having the same 2.3L engine.

Two dealerships over-filled oil in two of my other vehicles (Kia and Subaru). Since then I do my own oil changes. You'd think a dealership familiar with their own vehicles would get it right, but unfortunately that's not always the case.

There is what is specified in the documentation and forums, and actuality. My 2024 2.3L 7MT required 6 quarts to reach the top fill mark on the dip stick after a thorough drain. I've done four changes so far, and every time I come to the same conclusion: what was Ford thinking? The filter is not easy to get to - even through the wheel well. Some good filters, like the Mobile1, have rounded-over teeth, so a removal cap doesn't work. Wix filters are much better in this regard.

And Ford: putting that goofy drain trough in there doesn't help much in keeping things clean.

I understand the 2.3L MPC oil change process has improved the situation(?)

I've noticed that i often end up putting less oil in vehicles i change oil in than what the manual calls for. If i put the amount in it says in the book I would have to remove some or be over filled. I think the reason for this is that not all the oil will drain there will be residual oil that stays in different places in the engine. Every time the dealer changes oil in my 6. ah oh when i check the oil its always over the fill mark so i suck some out.
