The driver was parked in front of the restaurant and “mistakenly put the vehicle in Drive instead of Reverse”.

Glad to hear it wasn’t a brake failure, at least. Just an incompetent person at the wheel.

I still do not see how someone could go that far that fast after mistakenly putting it in drive instead of reverse. Were they going to floor it in reverse also ?

Sorta local to me - I saw this clip before it was confirmed the man was alright and it was pretty scary. He kinda just disappears under the front of the Bronco and you don't see him again.

Gotta feed them Broncos folks. If you don't, they'll go and feed themselves. Mine don't like Indian food though.

some people panic and stab their foot to the floor thinking they're on the brake. much like a person on a motorcycle/dirtbike whiskey throttling. just the way some people are wired.

Fully capable off-road vehicle. As for the driver.....

Don't think that the driver learned to do that at the Off-Roadeo

He didn't just put it in drive he punched it. Even if it was a mistake why was he accelerating so fast in reverse?

It looks a lot faster than it is. This is probably a normal rate of acceleration from a stop light. But yeah, there is no reason to accelerate fast from reverse but people do. A little more than idle is all that is necessary and a lot safer.

This happens a lot with mobile equipment. Driver puts vehicle in drive the wrong direction and when it slightly rolls in the wrong direction they impulsively gas it because they think the machinery is rolling wrong direction. The 1 second it takes to mentality process the screw up is what you are seeing.

happens more often then you think would be possible, person thinks they're in reverse looks over their shoulder or in the rear view and takes foot off brake and onto gas and gets startled that the vehicle moves forward instead of backwards and boom panic sets in and foot goes to the floor.

i don't disagree, a lot of accidents could be avoided if those type of people weren't on the road. same with the little old ladies who cant see over the steering wheel doing 30 below the limit without a care in the world for what's around them on there way to get some tapioca pudding before bingo.
