Drove in rain for the first time today. I’m new to part-time 4WD vehicles, so I apologize if this is a stupid question. I know I shouldn’t run the vehicle in 4H just because it’s raining (since turning on pavement in 4wd is discouraged). My question is, does enabling slippery mode and switching to 2H when it’s raining offer any advantages over simply driving in normal or eco mode? I know I have traction control regardless of GOAT mode, but I wasn’t sure what else goes on behind the scenes in slippery mode.

UPDATE: Sorry for the confusion, but I do not have 4A. My choices are 2H, 4H, and 4L.
As you will see in the below thread opinions vary on this.

Some may disagree with me… but I believe it’s ~dry~ pavement (or solid rock)

I run mine in 4H in bad rain all the time. Pretty much what @Fordified1 says is what I do as well

I have a Base model. I recommend eco mode. In the rain, acceleration is a lot tamer, and if needed, your traction control kicks in if you start slipping.

Honestly, I drive in eco mode most of the time. If I don’t have a reason to accelerate quickly, I figure every little bit of gas mileage helps.

I too have a BD non Sas but I do have 4A, 🤪 😉
I was just thinking , "Wasn't 4A a stand alone option for BD and OBX in the first couple years?"
IE .. full squatch not required.

Well , yes, you're correct in that it's not the "full" Sasquatch package.
All (standard) Badlands are "Sasquatch Lite", as I call it.
M210 locking front axle, Advanced transfer case , Bilstein Shocks.

Squatch brings 35's and a 1/2 or 3/4 inch lift and 4.70 gears.

I suspect (but can't prove it fully) that traction control does perform differently in slippery (vs eco/sport/etc). I have only used slippery in 4H in my F-150, but it was radically different from 4H sport mode.

The only thing you can do to improve safety in rain is to drive slower. Someone else said you can is 4H in rain. Do not do this, do not listen to that person, never use 4H on pavement unless its glazed over with ice or snow.
Come out to where it only rains twice a year, and rain is slicker than ice.

Yes, there are a few out there of both OBX and BD. Now the BB/BD Package has it in 2025.

As in people lose their minds over a little rain?
When it’s slick, yes some people lose their minds. I followed a full size Chevy truck up a hill on asphalt (chip and seal) this afternoon shortly after it rained and Just maintaining speed at about 50 mph the back end almost came around on him. If you’ve never experienced how slick it can be, you don’t know. The guardrail in that same stretch of asphalt has been replaced about 20 times or more in the 20 years. I’ve been here. 4H or AWD makes all the difference in how planted a vehicle feels in rain. But can also make someone over confident.

What year? I didn’t know it was an option on a non-sas BD. It wasn’t the first couple years anyway.
