Is it possible to just buy a trailer light kit and tie into your rear lights like the older vehicles or do you really need to go through the dealer and have them tear it all apart and pay $500 + ?

Thanks

If you're handy, you can purchase the harness for considerably less from Ford, and do the install yourself. IIRC all the plugs are already there, the mounting holes are there, etc. etc. etc.

I would NOT just tie into the rear lights. As finicky as new vehicles are when it comes to their electronics, that is ASKING for a problem that you don't need to deal with.

Curt sells trailering wire harness kits. Different ones for LED and not. Around $100. It still has a control box and needs a 12v supply from the battery but needs no programing (I think the Ford one does).

Yep, I used the Curt harness as well- pretty easy to install, purely plug n' play.
