I have the 74Weld portals on mine, and their rack. I have wheeled jeeps and full size Broncs for years. Nothing compares to the 6G on portals in my experience. The ground clearance is INSANE. The road manners are practically unaffected. If not for the terrible fuel mileage, and the big leap I gotta take to get in the thing, it would be a nice daily. I don't own a trailer for my 6G, I drive it anywhere I wheel it. I personally haven't had any reliability issues...they have been bulletproof. There is some maintenance to consider...they recommend changing the fluid in the boxes at each oil change. While I feel this is probably an abundance of caution, I have been following that schedule. My Bronco now well EXCEEDS my skill level in capability, and I am 100% happy with it!
I know others have had some issues... but I am right there with you... Exact same place.

I think @ScLeCo's story is an interesting lesson: That making things tougher doesn't always make them more better, especially if the cost to do so is high. You could make every car a tank, but the soft humans inside will still splat like a loogy on the dash given the right circumstances. Bend like a reed and you don't get uprooted. Maybe it's simple better to risk a cracked but somewhat tougher housing that's cheaper (and thus easier) to replace, especially when you could do that 2 1/2 times before you'd pay for the old one (and still have a weaker rack to fall back on).

It’s similar to how the tierods are the fuse meant to protect the rack. We buy the billet rack housing, then upgrade the tierods and find the next weak link to be the rack itself. You can’t buy the rack by itself, so you need to buy an entire steering assembly, pull the rack, then get it installed in the housing. So you’re still pulling everything and reinstalling it, but spending a lot more and gotta get it off the trail 🤣🤦🏼‍♂️ Dammit! Might as well carry a spare rack

Yes, exactly. If your group is doing things where cracking a housing seems possible, someone oughta have a rack and tools to install with them. Even another 2.0 rack. That probably eliminates all but 99.9% of all Bronco owners (and I'm being generous).

Absolutely. Though we have swapped two racks on the trail now and four tierods. The spare parts we carry have only been used on other rigs so far but our time is coming 😬

Everybody loves a ton of clearance but don't forget about the opposite friend - skid plates. I may not have 16" of clearance but my skids say fuck that rock anyways. Within reason...
While I have not forgotten about skids, I have a full complement, and I have used them. My 21 inches of clearance make it so that I just drive over the obstacle without touching as opposed to having enough traction to push myself over as I "skid" myself past.

And when I do use my skids, my tires contact the ground a little sooner.

Look, these things are not for everyone. Most people would never ever need them. It does make life an awful lot easier though if you do go to places where you could make use of them.

True that Joe! Just reminding others.

UHMW fully belly skids + portals = smooth sailing in rock gardens

I'm a terrible driver, I need all the help I can get.
You and me both, you and me both!

I do have an excuse though... No depth perception.... try driving with one eye closed... LOL.

All I have is poor judgement, a lack of common sense, paired with diminished self preservation instincts.

You really need to upgrade from that locktite you've been getting from Temu, then you wouldn't have these problems.
