And before you ask...

Can you list the training materials you've been trained on regarding FDRS?

The FDRS (Ford Diagnostic and Repair System) content accessible for response generation has been derived from technical summaries, service documentation, and official Ford and third-party tuning support documentation that includes the following types of material:

  1. OBD and Diagnostic Function Summaries – such as the OBD-Operations-Summary-Ford-Gasoline-2020-2023-Update.pdf which includes FDRS operational coverage and capabilities.
  2. HP Tuners and SCT Integration Guides – relevant to Ford PCM diagnostics and calibration handling, especially in contexts where stock calibration verification is performed.
  3. VCM Suite and Scanner Documentation – indirect relevance where FDRS is used to cross-reference or reset modules post-tuning.

Yes. My Bronco is tuned by ZFG with an unlocked MG1 PCM

"Bronco is tuned by ZFG with an unlocked MG1 PCM"

What can you tell me about this statement?

This statement indicates the following technical configuration:

  1. Platform:
The vehicle is a Ford Bronco, likely equipped with an MG1 PCM (Bosch MG1CSxxx series), which is standard on late-model EcoBoost variants.
  2. PCM Status:
The MG1 PCM has been unlocked. Bosch MG1 PCMs are factory-locked from read/write access. Unlocking requires specialized tools or services (bench or boot mode unlock) that remove OEM protections, allowing tuning tools to flash custom calibrations.
  3. Tuner:
ZFG Racing is a known aftermarket tuning provider focused on Ford platforms. They specialize in high-performance calibrations for EcoBoost and Coyote platforms using HP Tuners or SCT.
  4. Tuning Implications:
    • An unlocked MG1 allows the use of tools like HP Tuners MPVI2+/3 with the TDN or VCM Suite.
    • Calibration modifications can include boost targets, torque modeling, spark/fuel strategies, etc.
    • FDRS or dealer tools may now flag the PCM as non-compliant or unsupported due to calibration ID or checksum mismatch.
    • Warranty is void unless the PCM is relocked and returned to stock with OEM calibration and matching CVNs.

If further validation or restoration is needed, CVN checking and as-built data reprogramming via FDRS would be required.

Yeah most of that is accurate. Not bad for AI I guess.

But the last 2 bullet points still aren’t accurate.
My calibration number is the same as it’s always been as I already showed you, it’s completely supported considering I use FDRS all the time with zero issues, and my warranty is completely intact 🤷‍♂️

Not the calibration # but the checksum. FDRS can see that and your as built checksum will be different. It changes every time the PCM is flashed. Basically what I said already. Ford tools will pick it up and the calibration will be seen to have been changed. AND AS I SAID ALREADY (again), they will look in their service system and see no PCM replacement or flash was performance at a ford service department and they will know the calibration has been altered and not for any warranty or authorized service that was performed. Then you're done.

Now, with all that being said, depending on the nature of the warranty work, a deep dive might not occur. If its not part of the service procedures, then sure the tech wont go out of his way to check it. But as I said before (again - again) if you come coasting in there with a melted piston then STEP fucking one is to check the calibration. Ford help line will require it.

And another side of this that maybe isn’t as widely known is that all FDRS sessions are stored in the cloud. Anyone with an FDRS and the VIN can see every session ever done on the VIN in detail. Every test run and all the results. The people in Detroit use this data regularly to validate that warranty repairs were done correctly. When I was still working at Ford as FDRS was being launched I had a feeling that was part of the reason for replacing IDS, which worked great and was liked much more by the techs that used it every day. Most really aren’t too crazy about FDRS.

No hes talking out of his ass. This is from an AI thats been trained on FRDS service manuals.

"Yes, FDRS (Ford Diagnostic and Repair System) can detect if a PCM calibration has been altered. It does so by comparing the installed PCM calibration part numbers and checksums against Ford's backend calibration database. If a non-OEM or modified calibration is detected, FDRS will typically display a mismatch or error and may flag the module as having an unsupported or unauthorized configuration. This function supports detection of aftermarket tuning or custom OS installations that diverge from stock values."
LOL I’m talking out of my ass?!

“AI that’s been trained on FDRS service manuals”
lol Jesus dude, what does that even mean 🤣
You do realize that calibration ID and checksum spoofing is a thing and it’s entirely possible good tuners can make it very difficult for even Ford to notice a tune? Hilarious how you’re trying to act like you have the slightest clue what Ford does and doesn’t do, when I’m the one with the tuned Bronco and am also the one who works on these for a fucking living.

Like I’ve already said and what I’ve said this whole time, Ford doesn’t give 2 shits about your PCM calibration, checksum and any of stupid shit for 99.9% of warranty repairs.
They aren’t ever going to go looking for any of that. The only slim chance they ever might, is if you’ve blown up your engine. And at that point it’s already obviously probably too fucking late. Swapping the factory PCM back in won’t help a single bit.

Also, Ford “help line”, doesn’t even get contacted for regular warranty repairs nor do they require anything like that even if you did have a blown up engine. There is no prior approval needed for engine replacement under powertrain warranty, so unless the technician looks at your ignition counter and sees something out of the ordinary, it would likely get repaired with nobody knowing any better.

You are so far up your own ass, I don’t think you know the way to the toilet bowl. Just stop man. You can’t seem to accept that you have no idea what you’re talking about.

Relax, bud. You and @Ducati1098 both agree that if you blow your engine/trans with a custom tune then you’re screwed. I haven’t had any issues with a custom tune and warranty work, but I’m one guy and I’ve only been to one ford dealership. Your results may vary. It you don’t wanna risk it, then don’t get a custom tune.

Dont you have some pavement to slide on?
Oh man, another good one!
Nothing more funny then people that resort to lame insults because they're salty about being wrong in an internet argument 😆
Not sure what you do for a living, but you should consider going into comedy. You're great at it!

Its funny that I've presented facts and you've presented opinion, but I'm the one that's wrong? At this point talking straight to you with educated responses and facts is just pointless. So what are we left with?

Ive encountered forum nuts like you before. They cant be wrong, have to have the last word. Then when proven wrong, "you're lying" or your facts are incorrect. There is just no pleasing a person like you. So finally let me say that Its time to put you on the ignore list.

Still waiting on said "facts" you presented 🤷‍♂️
Any claim you made was proven wrong or irrelevant to the original post
But be my guest, throw your insults and then run away and ignore me lol Doesn't make a single difference here bud

Man, this thread went aground. Is the OP even around anymore?
Doesn't look like it. But at least he got some legitimate answers to his question from people like @MWILD and me that have experience in this situation.
